Where is the point in having cheerleaders and assist coaches

I understand that if you retire a player you may as well get an assisstant coach out of the deal, but i dont understand the point in purchasing either cheerleaders or assistant coaches. In our leagues no team currently has either. What are we missing out on?
They seem like a pointless way of raising your team rating.
Does anyone out there use lots of them?

I have a couple of ass coaches for the brilliant coaching roll, also cheerleaders work on the cheering fans roll. I don't have any cheerleaders cause i can't spare the money but retiring players to ass coaches is free.

Hopefully some more rules will come out making them more worthwhile

When i retire players, i fire them instead of making them coaches. Even for free, to me the assistant coach is more negative (+1 TR) than positive.

I spend up to 10K less than what a reroll would cost me on them. Example Dwarf rerolls during the season are 80K so I might have up to 4 assistant coaches and 3 cheerleaders.

This helps me win the free rerolls and they are still a bargain.

Let's see. Assume there are 4.5 kick off events per game. That's pretty average if you play dwarves, and this number will make calculations easier. Cheering fans happens on a 5 and brilliant coaching on a 9. So every kick off there's a 4 in 36 chance of getting one, and the same chance of getting the other. That's 8 in 36 total, or 1 every 4.5 drive, or 1 every game.

Let's say that your opponent has zero of each (which is what i or anyone in my league would have). Let's assume that TRs are equal for cheering fan purposes. Having 3 of one kind makes your chance of getting the reroll 91%. Having 4 makes it 97%. If you had zero just like me, your chance would be 50%.

Winning the roll only gives you a reroll for one half (instead of one for each half like normal team rerolls), but it also keeps the opponent from getting one, so we'll say that it's the same as giving you one for each half.

So every game on average, you're getting 44% of a reroll. (97+91)/2-50=44. But it cost you 87.5% of a normal reroll (70/80). Not such a good deal methinks.

And that's without considering the fact that the reroll would have decreased your TR by 4, giving you an extra handicap in some of your games and making you earn more money.

So now tell me, why is it again that you buy assistant coaches and cheerleaders?

Well to each his own. Works for me. I suppose you feel the money is better spent sitting in the treasury? I'd rather spend it. Especially when you consider that the coaches and cheerleaders can be bought a little at a time.
I don't have such an attack at my TR going up 4 points. Most pople in my league advance at a close rate and the handicap table isn't that harsh. I don't worry about my TR. What does a high TR gurt anyway? It gives you less money...hmmn. So what? If I'm buying silliness like assistant coaches and cheerleaders then money isn't that important.

Ive got 2 ass coaches which are retired players, thats just to give me a slight edge on the rolls, when ppl don't have any, for tr i think its a fair trade off, not that i know any numbers.

If I get you right, I pay once (!) for 0.87 rr and receive 0.44 rr per game. So this evens up after two games and after three it's a bargain????? :o  :o

4 points of TR can make a huge impact. For example, in my last game with my chaos dwarves, i was giving 1 handicap to my opponent. He got the one that reduces your rerolls in half for the first half. So my team had to play the first half with 2 rerolls instead of 5. See, assistant coaches can make you lose rerolls as well!

If TRs are close in your league, all the more reason for keeping yours small. The difference in TR between one handicap level and the next is smaller when the two teams are close, which means that 4 TR is more likely to make a difference in that situation.

If you really have nothing to do with your money, i suggest you just throw it away freebooting (that's what i do). That money is better off wasted than sitting idle in assistant coaches and cheerleaders and artificially inflating your TR.

No, because you would have kept the reroll just like you'd keep the assistant coaches and cheerleaders. You pay more, get fewer rerolls to use and get a higher TR to boost. All negatives and no positive.

I agree that the rules for ass. coaches and cheerleaders need broadening for long term league play - go to www32.brinkster.com/bloodbowluk to download some experimental assistanct coaching/training rules I have produced and sent to fanatic.

However, I do think that having a few of each is a good thing, helping out on the odd Kick Off roll. To me though, I just like having nice cheerleader models, as well as my Assistant coaches in the dugout, just because they look cool and add to the fun factor - I'm bringing my coaches etc. to the BB tourny even though they are not on my roster. Having them on the sideline encourages my boys to play better

I've always felt that the players who like the models enough will have these figures painted at the game whether they have any or not on the team.

Given that a lot of players (most?) don't even play with a painted team I don't think many are going to worry about not having figures for their couple of assistant coaches.

My point is that there is no real need figure wise, for these to be in the rules.

Personally I have an assistant coach but he will be fired the instant he will cause me to lose 10k on the winnings table or take a handicap card i needn't without him.

I would be happy to see these rules dropped as they really don't apply to most games anyway. I'm guessing that this is not going to happen so some sort of expanded rules/kick-off table that makes them more useful would probably be a good thing.

well the store where we play our league games requires at least mostly painted figs to play...makes good business sense. A newbie walking by is a lot more likely to notice painted figs playing than not.

as for the cheerleaders and assistants and so on, yes, i have some, and i have them on the sidelines whether my team actually has any on the roster or not...usually they don't. Bad economics...tr inflation.

You can't fire assistant coaches, only players. Once you've got him you're stuck with him, just like rerolls.

Like I said, to each his own but I don't get upset when I give up a handicap. I'm perfectly capable of beating players with a lower TR. I don't need to keep mine as low as possible just to screw somebody else. And 4 points of TR don't even give up one handicap roll. So if somebody else comes along and it gives them a roll on the table, big deal, I probably have a better team and I get the advantage on the kick off table.

You can say it's not to your tastes but it doesn't make it a bad strategy. My win/loss record can attest to that.

Freebooting? Talk about a waste of money. How MVP's and SPP's are you burning up on temp players? What a waste.
