Losing Racial Characteristics on a Double

Well my opinion is since Big Guys dont score that much SPP it would be a rare event and fun, Because getting rid of some RC is very desireable althoug it might cost the Big guy a vital skill like Block...

When GW issued that rule, I was able to lose OFAB on my vampire.... It became too powerfull a player. I think the same goes for minotaurs/trolls.
If they lose their disadvantages, that should be compensated somehow...
So, I think they should not change it back again....

I voted yes, but I do have to say that that possibility o be accompanied by an increase in cost for these players.
I just think that a star should be able to be evolved from the available rooky players...
On the other hand, I do agree that this would make these players far to strong/effective, and that ruleswise it would not be a good change.

Whats more Powerful:
a Treeman with Block
or
a Treeman without Take Root
?
i mean you have to score the SPP and roll the Double first...

No way, bb doesnt need an arms race. Big guys can get broken too fast without the racial negatives.

The treeman without Take Root, because he will always show up. I don't mind any player as long as he is off the pitch...

I really like how things are now. Racial Characteristic should stay unchangable.

I really like the idea of losing the racial characteristics. I once had a Rat Orge without Wild Animal, what a demon!
But getting the possiblity on doubles is too common imo. How about dropping a RC at double 6? It's very rare (1/36) and the STR update is not too useful for a BG anyway.

My thought is that the Neg Traits should be lost at 51 SPP's. Maybe higher if testing showed it was too early but I think it would take most big guys a long time to reach 51 SPP's.

Very good idea Pariah. Combine both element's and the whole matter seems very good to me (like every Starplayer roll after 51 SPP that rolls an double might get you rid of the racial characteristic ...)
Not bad at all ...

I don't see this ever being an official rule, but it is something I would consider house ruling in my local league. By the time they hit 51 SPPs they should know what to do on the field.

I like the idea of Big Guys being able to lose RC at a specific amount of SPP. Give the Big Guy a 50/50 chance of losing a RC at each skill gain from then on out. It would read like this:
When a Big Guy posesses 51 or more Star Player Points, and earns a new skill, roll a D6. On a 1,2, or 3, roll for the skill as normal. On a 4,5, or 6, you may remove one Racial Characteristic, or roll for a skill as normal. You may not remove more than one Racial Characteristic from any single player.
I think that this is a good rule. Minotaurs will still either be "Always Hungry" or "Wild Animal". Ogres will get smarter, but then of course, ogres aren't really THAT stupid, and once they get 51 SPP's, they know who their friends are and who their enemies are ("Kill the guys NOT wearing white, I got it now coach!").
I think that if you do this, Treemen wil need their costs raised, however, and perhaps the rest of the Big Guys too.
Just my 2 copper...

I voted no.
I always hated three things of the 2nd ed. Rules:
1) on pitch magic users
2) unbalanced mixed teams
3) Killer Big guys who break game/player balance
The first is gone, the second just tries to show up its ugly head again and the third has been successfully cut down, and that's how it should stay.
Yes Sir, I am a conservative BB coach!

Great idea Pariah. It has some merit. Also, if a team reaches the level where a big guy is that strong it is reasonable to assume that they feed the Minotaur or troll enough so that he doesn't eat his teammates
The 51 SPP threshold seem like a good place.
@narkotic. Aww....come on. What's wrong with level 4 Mighty Blow and Block?

I wish I still had the 2nd edition rules.
