Big Guys and Piling on, legitimate tactic?

BBRC should ban it

Big Guys and Piling On-Smell the Cheese

Post by Methusalah »

Now maybe it's just a pet hate of mine, but I think Big Guys with Piling On is a really cheap, cheesy tactic to inflict a cas. I'd rather give my Big Guys Block, or Pro for those nasty failed Boneheads at particularily inopportune times. I'm just wondering, am I in the minority here? Maybe I am, after all, we're all allowed to have our own little pet hates ;) Interested in anyones opinion

Why not ban Wood Elves from getting Dodge, Catch and Sidestep while you're at it? Or stop Skaven from getting Very Long Legs and Sprint? or stop Dwarfs getting Guard and Mighty Blow accross the board?
Its one of those things. Deal.

It goes like this: Big guy piles on some hopeless sap. Hopeless sap's mates come along and kick the big guy to death. Get yourself a dirty player and discourage the tactic.

That said, I like the idea of POn being a reroll on the armour roll instead of a bonus to said roll, as was mooted a while back.

I'd like to see one turn scorers banned, but that isn't going to happen either.

It would help a lot if the official rules were changed so that they had to declare PO before the die roll.

Piling on didn't help my Undead opponent's Mummies when he rolled a Block/Skull reult against my all-Guard Dwarf line. Sure, Pile-on is pretty lame, and is a great way for weaker teams to avoid your team like the PLAGUE, but it can be defeated. Like posted above, when they go prone for this skill, make sure they STAY prone, preferrably in the Dead & Injured box

Dirty Player and fouling was created for just such players.

I like PO it's just fun. ok it's cheap but hey so is assisting fouling, BB is a game of unfair tactics and cheap cas. I agree with you it's smarter to take block, or pro. But PO is just a funny skill and BB I all about fun!!!!!!

I have no problem with Big Guys getting pile on or that it's used after the armour roll. I fthey have PO then they probubly don't have block or pro yet so there easier to take down. It's a choice the coach makes: If he lies his own player down for a better CHANCE of getting an injury, that's fine. It leaves the Big Guy that just pissed off the team lying there asking for it. Plus, PO only affects armour rolls anyway right? Just because they beat armour doesn't mean it will be an injury or even a KO and it keeps them out of the play the next turn as they stand up.

Over here we don't have any problem with this because we use a sensible version of piling on, the 3rd ed version.

Since I've taken 4 Piling On Mummies in a Khemri team I just had to answer can't get enough...

Having said that IMO Piling On ought to go back to 3E and then I wouldn't take it on all 4.....

PS edited number of mummies to 4

It's nasty once, usually not anymore after my turn :P

If Big Guys can't get something positive, what's the point of having any on a roster ? I mean: Bone-Head, Really Stupid, Wild Animal, Take Root, Always Hungry... Can they have fun as well? ;)

I think dodge with Ag 4 is cheesey...2 tries at 2+? Unacceptable. Come to think of it, all sorts of stuff involving Ag 4 gives me headaches, so its all cheesey. OK, I don't really believe that but you get the point. Take a DP and you will be able to end the piling on BG.

It makes me laugh how everyone cried about fouling so they neutered it. Now we need Ageing, and people cry about PO...so we say to foul more! As the self appointed #1 3rd ed fan-boy on the forum I say be carefull what you wish for.

I think with the current rules PO is a little overpowered - all you need to do is make it so you PO before the Av roll. Then its still a good skill but a bit less overpowering.
