Stop a grown man from crying.... (Search for Elf minis)

Post by Lord_Squinty »

Hey all,

I just found these on Indiegogo...

http://www.mk1881.com/
(the Honos Elves)

I've wanted models to look like this since the first BB computer game (ok not the one flexing, but the rest are awesome)
Obviously I've missed the Kickstarter, does anyone know where these are likely to be sold? / when a release is likely?

Cheers,
Squinty

Yeah, I wouldn't buy from MK1881. I'm planning to wait for one of the more reputable companies to kickstarter/indiegogo a team - I'd be surprised if we didn't see at least one better, and significantly cheaper, elf team out by the end of the year. There have been a lot of questions put to the guy behind MK1881 (basically Rolljordan) here and on other forums that he flat out refuses to answer. That's his prerogative and good luck to the guy, but it all looks very shady to me and sadly I personally don't trust him an inch after some of the things I've seen him post.

Add to that, Im not reassured by any company that launches its fourth kickstarter before any of the previous 3 have delivered.

Darkson should put a banner up for the broken record that you and Heff play constantly to save you the trouble of posting in every thread.

And you definitely rolled doubles for fouling!

Yeah Shteve0, the whole fake identity on MK1881 through Facebook and it really being Rolljordan is still something that makes me pause.

I like what he did with his Dark Elves. I think that was a solidly done team and I'm not surprised it funded as well as it did.

But Lord_Squinty, I definitely have a concern on the Honos. Stop looking at the sculpts and look at what is connecting them to the base. On 90% of the team, the contact with the base is almost nothing. If these were lightweight (like resin or plastic), that might be okay, but in metal. I think this team is going to lead to massive heartbreak to anyone owning it as the points of connection are going to be so fragile that the figures will break off the bases extremely easily.

I've seen the Elf team that Fassbinder talked about and I think that will be a fun team and since it will be resin for only $35. I agree that that is the team I'm waiting for.

However, if you have your heart set on the Honos. Just wait. As soon as the company ships out the teams to the backers, they will have them in their online store for sale. So you did not miss out on the team. It is not a limited edition. Just check back with the website in about 3 months.

Point is the doubts around if they were "his" dark elves give me pause.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Thanks for the replies all,

I could see the problems with connecting to base, but assumed they would be plastic. I've had plenty of practice with small surface area (like the one handed somersault elf) connection thanks to Malifaux minis - some of them don't have much to play with. :)

I'll have a look at the new impact minis when they come out, but was mainly wanting this team as they look very close to the Elf team from the computer game which is a look I really like for an Elf team.

Cheers All.

Squinty

In all seriousness, could you possibly use flight bases?

Weapon snipped Eldar Harlequins. THE ideal elf team. This is my version. Nazgobs were better but I cannot find them

Hey Squinty,

I really hear what you mean. I was blown away by the models when I saw them.

In case you haven't seen it yet, the team has some great blown up images in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=39226

I was lucky enough to get in on the campaign in time and I am really excited to see how they come out in metal. Yeah, some of the poses look fairly worrisome for contact points, but the final models haven't been 100% set and the Facebook page talked about the casting challenges. The designer's previous slann and wood elf teams both looked great. I am not worried about it. The man certainly has a cool vision for the Honos/Pro-elf team.

Digger, I was thinking the same thing about using flight bases. I think one of the poses actually comes with one of those stands. I was thinking at least one or two others might go well with one. I can't wait to find out.

Heff, those harlequins look great! I'd love to see them across the pitch.

Cheers,
-Dan

The team will be one of the 17 being funded by this KickStarter effort that I'm organizing:
