Fluff - Laurelorn Lepers

Post by garion »

Hi all,

another fluff hunt here, like the Southstorm squids one for those that remember that thread.

I remember a team called Laurelorn Lepers (in 2nd ed I believe) probably a Wood Elf Leper team based on the team name. But I cannot find where I read about them. I have quickly scanned through 2nd ed rules, companion and stars books and couldn't find the passage I was looking for.

Any one know where they are written about, the book and the page number would be helpful if you find them :)

good luck on the hunt :)

Apparently they were included in this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-med ... F8&index=0

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bloodbowl-sta ... 1458145503

My source being here:

http://loreofnuffle.talkfantasyfootball ... _teams.htm

...the eBay link above is probably the cheapest way of finding out more unless someone here owns the book and can type their fluff out!

Yup I have that book and have checked it. I couldn't find the mention of them though. :( also Lore of Nuffle has a fair bit of missing information that's contained in those books. I might just need to read through it page to page in more detail, as I just scan read it, though I really couldnt see mention of them.

Do you know who the site belongs to as there is quite a lot that could be added.

Ithikar started it, and ot was moved to Doubleskull's server (or hosting or something) when the site was going to close.
ith no longer updates it though, so if you're interested in working on it your best bet is to speak to DS.

Okay. I have too much on my plate at the moment, though in the future sometime I will happily help out.

Erm..... I'm not sure what the rules are about quoting big chunks from GW rule books?

The short of it is Laurelorn Lepers fans throw their hands in the air in excitement (literally throwing their hands in the air) when trolls manage to remember which direction to move in.

So there wasn't as much to go off as I had hoped. I had a pretty funny idea for a team based on that name....

Laurelorn is a forest in the Nordlands (northern most part of The Empire). It is home to Wood Elves and also Humans. The Humans are more like Norse in appearance, strong and a little more feral than their more civilized city dwellers to the south. The woods are ruled by the Wood Elves, though they allow the humans access to some small areas of the woods. Occasionally the humans try and build settlements in other areas of the woods though and this angers the Wood Elves who cast all manner of spells on them, driving them away or turning them in to something etc.. etc...

So thats the official WFB/WFRP fluff for the area. In Bloodbowl, there are two other teams from Laurelorn, 1 mentioned in 2nd ed and another in a white dwarf IIRC (might be a 3rd in 2nd ed as well, cant remember right now). These are both Elf/woodelf teams. So I suspected the Leper team may also be an elf team, or a human leper colony living in the forest. Or a mix of both.

Obviously this team is in quite bad taste, so sorry if it offends you, but its just a bit of silliness....
So what I was thinking was something like -

fluff in short -
Humans of the area got permission from the wood elves to house a leper colony in the woods in seclusion yadyadayada. Occasionally wood elves leave the security of their woods and attempt to heal them with their magic. Sometimes wood elves are infected and cast out of their society and live in the Leper colony. etc.. etc... you see where this is going

0-16 Human Lepers 6338 decay, FA, DP, 50K
0-4 Wood Elf Lepers 7337 decay, FA, DP, 70k

Special rules - When a player in the opposing team is killed roll again on the cas table. on a result of MB or MNG they join your team exactly as they are gaining Decay FA and DP. On a result of a niggle or stat drop - they keep that stat drop or niggle and gain decay and FA DP, then join you. On a result of killed, the player is killed.

cannot save any opposing players that have regen, nurgles rot, undead the usual etc....

I'm not a massive fan of the theme tbh, but wanted to make a collection roster, one in which you could steal players from opposing teams and when i remembered the leper team I thought that was an opportunity to do so, players being infected with leprosy. However it does feel a little bad taste, so I will likely just do a Malal roster instead where they convert players to Malal which works too.

I know the team sucks, but it would be very unique having a team that collects players from other teams.

Except that the team aren't really lepers...they're trolls. it's a one-off joke about the (now discarded?) tendency of trolls' limbs to rot away and then regenerate.

Seems like you'd be better off just house ruling zombies/rotters, as so many other leagues have done. The claimed players keep a modified stat line (-2 MA and -1 AG, for instance) instead of just becoming generic zombies. You could make the team all zombies if you didn't want it to be a straight buff to Undead/Necro.

I'm not convinced that is the case tbh. Certainly the team is applauding a troll moving in the right direction, but that doesn't mean the fans are trolls, or that they are even supporting the troll team. It is just implying the Laurelorn Lepers fans were applauding a troll doing something of use. The passage is also implying the fans are literally throwing their own hands in the air which sounds like a leper joke to me.

I'm not a fan of the zombie versions you see about tbh. As the stat drops are so bad they ruin most players, and becoming a zombie is already covered in the rules so I wanted something different.

As I said though, I think Malal teams would be the best fit for a collection type roster. It fits the fluff well enough.

Well...the defining traits of trolls in that era of Warhammer (and probably other fantasy worlds, given that not much in GW's canon was entirely original) were regeneration, stupidity, and the "leprous" qualities I mentioned above. See the GW children's board game "Oi, Dat's My Leg."

But yeah, I guess it's possible that team in Laurelorn was made up of actual human lepers that hung out with a troll due to their shared ailments.
