Regarding Ebay.....

Just curious I notice several posts in which people are aghast at how much BB minis are going for. Just curious as I come from the other side of the issue, what would make a mini worth over $100 to you? I have yet to reach the mark of some of the fine painters out there, but I have seen some marginal stuff go for WAYYYY too much yet others that are extremely well painted and based only go for pennies on the dollar (guess which side of the pond I'm on eh?)

I have been thinking of painting up a couple teams just to pay for a larger team that I want and I really am curious what you folks look for? Conversions or just a clean paint job or both?

usually the expensive stuff is for rare minatures that you can't buy anymore, or never went on sale in the first place

I don't paint. A lot of people on here do paint and they get feeling pretty good about themselves when they see comething painted going for a lot of money. They'll usually then post something about being able to paint circles around the person who painted that and talk about how only a fool would pay that much. Meanwhile, some of us might have wanted to bid on it. It's almost like they're calling us stupid or something.

The fact is that, to have a good painting service paint your team it's going to cost around $10 a mini to have a good, clean job done witha little shading. Sometimes you can get it down around $6 for the most basic, blocked, job if you have a lot of 10 or more and you want the same paint scheme. BB teams work well for this. That is going to cost $72 to $120 for a 12 man team. Paying $50 to $100 on eBay for the paint job and the minis then doesn't look too bad.

The problem then becomes adding to the team. You didn't paint them and you probably don't know who did so when you add the needed members of your team to it you can't, usually, get them painted to match that well. You might come close but not quite.

Sooo... to get to your actual question, I want a nice clean paint job on a full team of 16 players (all the positions filled out) that all look like they belong together. Or, maybe I can just pay you directly to paint for me.

There isn't a mini made thats worth $100 to me, not even if it were gold plated with diamond chips for eyes. . .

I would play with bottle caps as proxies long before I would even consider paying such a rediculous price. . .

I wouldn't even pay that much for a full team!

For instance...

Okay here is some of my stuff, I know it isn't bloodbowl, but between the holiday's, trying to get in a couple games and trying like mad to suppliment the income to pay for the kiddies christmas I have not the time to take pics of them yet.

Kharn and the Necron took about 2 weeks each, compared to some of the stuff that has gone on Ebay, I was a bit disappointed on what they finally went for. So what am I missing, I am fairly certain they do not suck as they took "Rogue Golden Demons" at the last few Rogue traders I went to.

As for not wanting to pay that much for a mini, I understand that and do not have a problem with that, heck I couldn't afford a $300.00 on the Jennifer Haley does, plus I would be scared to death I would drop it or something. I would however pay a hundred easy if it was a well painted, and based mini...too each his own right?

Hey man, if those are 25mm minis then I think 40 bucks is pretty good. I think if you figure that a Necron Lord costs...what about 8 dollars?, the you got about 5X that price. Pretty good if you ask me.

In the end you can't judge your painting by what it sells for on eBay. That's a real pot luck. It all comes down to who sees it, if they need it and if it matches what they already have. 100 to one shot really.

I forgot about that, got me a really good ad-blocker so I have not had that problem in awhile. Well I guess I will keep plugging along. I would really like to get to the degree of the Historical miniature painters though, wow talk about realism at a small scale.

Yep, this is a good point. I've seen many very nice painted teams on ebay that I could have bidded on, but as there was only maybe 12 players on the team, I didn't bother. Of course, you can always ask from the seller if he could paint the few extra models that you think you would need...

I can actually paint myself, but I get around to it so seldom, that I also buy painted BB teams, WHFB armies, etc when I find something nice for a fair price. For example I bought a 16 model High Elf team that was painted to pretty nice standard for £40 including postage just some weeks ago.

Would you could should you...

Here is what I aspire for....this young lady paints like a dream and is quite possibly the most helpful person I have met since I ventured into miniature painting.....

Now painting like that would make me a happy boy.

:o :o :o That's amazing, but $400 for a single miniature seems deeply wrong, somehow.
