Fummbl or cyanide

Post by ryan.bright1 »

Hey everybody out there. First things first I was wondering where I could get legendary edition blood bowl or the best place to get it or both. Also, what is better fummbl or the cyanide game.

I've tried both and much prefer Fumbbl. Graphics is the only thing better on Cyanide's version.

FUMBBL is the better client in terms of the rules. It also has vastly better management options and is free.
The Cyanide client is prettier in-game but has a horrible and poorly explained UI in most states. It is not free.

Your call. I only play Cyanide because my league plays there.

It often goes on sale for cheap on steam, though now is not one of those time. Focus also wised up to the fact that giving CE for $10 to anyone who owned a previous version, rather than $30, while having the Dark Elf edition on steal for like $5, led to people getting the game for $15 even if they weren't a returning customer, so DE is no longer on Steam. It's Chaos Edition you want, not Legendary Edition, since that's the most recent. LE is $20, CE is $30 most places I've looked.

Hmm.. it depends on what you're planning to do, really. Both of them suck in their own special ways, but each of them shines in a few ways.

If you're looking for open play, where you just log in, find an opponent, and play... I'd say Cyanide is the way to go. The Cyanide matchmaking system is faster and smoother than FUMBBL's for that type of play. In general Cyanide is good for having less of a learning curve to deal with. It's nicer looking than FUMBBL in the way, say, films from the 1990s are nicer looking than films from the 1920s... but lighter on the content. The population is higher on the Cyanide servers, as well.

FUMBBL is better if you're an avid TT player who will notice the rule discrepancies in the Cyanide version. Don't underestimate how aggravating it can be to see small things being wrong when you know better! (My wife says a big chunk of her enjoyment of television is me shouting at the TV when they get the science wrong, for example). The FUMBBL system is not quite as smooth - it takes some getting used to, and there are specific things to deal with there (like the threat of a ban if you concede too often (!?)). Much, much more variety in play on FUMBBL though, and a more active community of people who might help you with rules questions. FUMBBL is +Slann -Khorne which means a lot to some folks, too.

Well FUMBBL is free so you can give that a go and if you hate it specifically or online Bloodbowl in general then all you have lost is a bit of time. You can also spectate matches which will give a feel for the client. You can even play against yourself using the Test mode, thanks to sann0638 for the great guide.

Cyanide has a graphics advantage and single player mode so you can mess about on that if you are bored. The AI won't provide much of a challenge, but you can always play flings or try to make a great passing mummy.

You'd think! There have been endless threads posted by people who think the game is impossibly difficult even on easy. Since people who know how to play the game find the AI trivial, and people who don't know how to play the game find it impossible, it suggests the single player mode has a very, very important role to play in introducing new players to the game. If you can beat the AI that doesn't mean you'll be a pro player against humans, but if you can't beat the AI, chances are you're not ready to play against human opponents.

now this I agree with.

although I would say that prolonged exposure to the Cyanide AI tends to weaken a coach's skills given the lack of competition.

Playing on Fumbbl you can be fairly confident in completing a match and there is a regulated disconnection policy.

I don't play on Cyanide but from what has previously been posted on this forum I understand dodgy disconnections are an issue on the Cyanide Public Leagues.

Thanks - would be interested to see how much it gets used, I was interested today in doing a matchup with my proposed Thrud roster v someone but wasn't sure how to go about finding an opponent - I guess you would need to find a real life person who also played Fumbbl and wanted to do the same. No time, anyway!

Not as exciting as it sounds, possibly - Thrudball is a tournament happening this weekend!

That kind of Thrud roster. :D That I understand. A team of Thruds or Thrud & Co. I've never heard of.

I agree ont he graphics. I really like the Cyanide game because of the graphics. I can't get used to the fummbl graphics.

I tried cyanid when it first came out. I played only 2 months. It wasn't official league and players level was very random at beginning. I don't realy appreciate the graphics (too much useless animations for a turn by turn game). Now, there is official league and if you subscribe you will find a real competition.

I subscribe 1 month ago on FUMBBL. The level is quite better than cyanide on random matchs. For sure, ergonomy and graphics are a bit old but it's quite fonctionnal. IMO, you have a better view on the pitch. The LRB 6 is strictly applied and there is no bug in rules. I do recommand FUMBBL. It's free so try it first.
