With the Hobbit not showing that much success over the last year I can't help but think the games days are numbered. In many ways it does the same thing as Warhammer but with an IP they don't own and have to pay for. I would be surprised if it lasts much beyond the last movie which will hopefully free up a gap in GW stores.

It is often suggested that the reason Blood Bowl was not supported was the fact that you only needed a few models to play and so didn't need to spend £100s on an army. That being said I'm sure that a Blood Bowl boxed game would out sell the Hobbit and by releasing boxes of plastic models that can cover two races I'm sure they would sell well. I do however think that it would run out of options to release quite quickly and after a couple of years be difficult to sustain.

Unfortunately, in the long run BB wouldn't even get near to WFB or 40K in terms of sales weight.
If they end up dropping 'the hobbit' (and I believe they may), I'd suspect they might concentrate in the two core games, and occasional 'black box'.

I think half the Hobbit's problem is the ridiculous pricing. In Australia the White Council, which is four 28mm finecast minis is $125!

I can get an awesome 16 man metal BB team for that much.

Similarly they have a mounted and on foot version of various characters for $70 and some of the 28mm characters are $35 each.

I know that there is a licensing fee they need to pay, but the prices are just ridiculous in Australia. So it's no wonder it's not doing so well.

When the fabled new BB arrives, it will be an 8ftx4ft pitch and the teams will have increased slightly from 11 a side to 240 a side. Then every 12 months thirty of your positionals become worthless and they release new, incredibly powerful replacements (available from all good GW stockists). Problem solved!
