Hi all,
this can be found on thenaf.net: http://www.thenaf.net/index.php?name=PN ... pic&t=5992

Dear Members

This is always an exciting time of year as the NAF announces new dice. We are keeping this tradition but sadly, after ten years, Games Workshop has brought this great tradition of new block dice to an end.

We tried many angles with GW, but ultimately the licensing department would not renew our deal meaning that, for 2013, a new colour of blocking dice cannot be issued. We have good relations with GW and hope that with continued communication this may change in the future.

This year we will instead be issuing matching coloured sets of 2D6, plus a D8 and a D16. In the great tradition of the NAF, the new colour and unique design will be announced at the NAF Championship 2013 and attendees renewing their membership can get their new dice. A picture of the new dice will go up on the website shortly afterwards.

We are excited about our new dice, however we also have stocks of some of the classic back catalogue of dice and are very well aware that many would like to get their hands on some. So until further notice, when members renew or sign up, we will be able to fulfill their request for block dice. Current supplies are Red, Yellow, Light Blue, Light Green and Silver.

We hope you're as enthusiastic as we are about this fabulous opportunity for NAF members to expand their collections of Blood Bowl accessories. The brand new dice sets will be available from June 1st this year, but members will have the option to request dice from our classic collections (as above) instead.

Happy dice rolling!

Dave
NAF President

Well pantaloons. At least it got to a nice round 10 years. However I was looking forward to some shiny new ones to replace the dodgy silver ones

Here comes registering several accounts to get some of the different colours!

Thank you to the.committee for finding new ways for us to keep our loot.

Looking forward to my new dice.

I wish the committee had gone with custom block dice over d6/d8 etc. I just don't see them being the same drawcard to encourage renewals and new registrations. Hopefully I'm wrong :/

You do realise you don't need to register several accounts to get multiple sets of dice? You can just renew your account multiple times.

I think there may be legal issues involved in that (just a guess, I haven't asked el Presidente). Other companies do it, but they are not as clearly linked to GW as the NAF.

Oh I did not realise that at all. Thanks for the heads up!

It just extends your membership for however many years extra you buy worth of dice. I normally register at the tournament I run, so I'm not sure how you get multiple years membership online.

I would imagine so.
Personally I'm gladened to know that the NAF deliberately maintains a positive and freindly attitude towards GW. The company may be hard for the wider community to deal with at times, but it can't stop players playing any edition of any game with whatever materials they have to hand.
We're better off by nodding and smiling, agreeing for the most part and just carrying on quite happily.

I understand the NAF have a fair amount of older versions of block dice stored away for such a rainy day as they have just announced. It would be a waste of NAF funds to create and purchase their own versions of block dice while they still have block dice to issue as membership gifts. The D6 are a good compromise to be able to continue the collectible NAF dice tradition.

I like the idea of getting d6/d8/d16 - i hope they match the old blocking dice.

I think many of us were expecting this to happen, but good to see the NAF have thought on their feet and will be delivering an alternative.

I have to question what the NAF actually benefits from being associated with GW now?

As far as I can see with the GT no longer being held at Warhammer World and GW getting rid of specialist game this looks to be the last link to them being broken.

It looks like GW has already removed everything “official”, such as the trophy so why not come up with a set of custom block dice and release a new colour every year? Whilst you couldn’t copy their designs having a skull, 2 arrows, explosion and explosion with other symbol on it is very generic.

My thinking also. I get this nebulous desire to play nice with GW, but what exactly is the benefit of a good relationship with them now that the dice are off the table?

Not entirely surprising, but still a bit of a downer on things. Well done to the NAF for getting alternatives sorted out.

All this just makes me even more glad I ordered some shiny FUMBBL block dice through the kickstarter though... (and that my NAF membership is already set for the next 18 months)
