What balls?

Post by outcast »

Resisting the obvious temptation for innuendo, I was just sitting here and wondering what balls you all prefer to play with?

What sparked this train of thought was that I've just bought a team from eBay and it came with two balls mounted on 25mm bases. They look great and I haven't tried playing with them yet but I imagine the bases would make it a little tricky.

In the few games I've played up until now I've used the "spikey" ball that came with my box set as it stays on the base of the ball carrier a little better than the "non-spikey" ball with the grass surround.

And while my ball-related curiosity is idling away, how do you represent the ball being carried? Place it in the same square as the ball carrier? Place it on the ball-carrier? Does this wear off the base gravel/grass? Am I thinking about this waaaay too much? :-?

Cheers

All my models have magnets in the bases and my ball is snotling that I have drilled pins into so the magnets hold it in place.
I find it much more satisfying to kick a snotling around rather than an inflated pigs bladder :)

I use this, it's a 30 MM lipped base modified with a magnet to hold the ball:

I own several options, including those with the handy base ring attachments. But I always ignore those in favor of an unpainted yellow spiked football, which I believe came out of the Dungeonbowl set. It's just much easier to spot on the field and, as I have several of them, I don't worry about losing it.

So many options for retort. Probably need to just walk away from this one. :)

that looks very cool! I know what my plan is for tonight.

What happens if I big gut gets the ball? I know very situational, but it does sometimes happen

I use the Spike Ball with the plastic ring around it sold from Impact, maybe one of the best BB add-ons I have bought.

Use something similar to what Spiky posted. Moodygit made one on a 30mm base, but with a cresent of flock, and a space for a 25mm base. He originally made one for our 4-way board, but then made a couple more for himself and me.

I use impact's footballs with magnetic metal in them and then hid a magnet under the bases of all my minis to hold it in place.

My favourite was a Space Marine head, but these days I settle for Goblin heads.

I have a bit of a thing for balls, the Blood Bowl kind that is. I allways paint one to go with a team once I've got it painted. My teams seem to play best when playing with their own balls

The ball is magnetic so you can remove it and just place it on the big guy base... Mind you I usually put big guys on 30mm bases as standard, so don't usually have a problem

That sounds really cool.
Do you paint different logos on them (teaam logo, or brands)? And any chance to see pics of those?
