Ok, I looked all over the message board and couldn't find the associated colours, can anyone remind me what they are.
The way I remember it is:
Linemen: grey
Throwers: white
Catchers: orange
Blitzers: blue
Blockers: green
But I know I have it all wrong. Who can correct me?

indeed, and to that we have added for players who either expressly don't fit or who just need a bit of a special touch:
kickers: blue
runners: orange (and we redefined a lot of existing players as runners, it's a personal taste isue)
everything that isn't anything else: purple
back in the 2e days we only had two colors above the original 5, and that was blue for the kickers and purple for mutants... back then the rosters were so much more tightly-defined within the _bloodbowl_ theme as opposedto the _wfb_ theme that those were the only players who needed new colors...
in the new edition, most all of the silly wfb-named players can be slapped into the original 5 colors... in truth, there is just 1, the trollslayer, who simply cannot be made to fit into the conventional 5 colors (you can call him a blitzer, but the team already has them.... arguments ensue, people get annoyed, etc) ... without kickers, and excepting the trollslayers you only need to have the original 5... however, i found over the years that there really is a strong sense of two different types of fast/agile player, catcher and runner, and i decided to codify these types...
point being, if you want to come over to the forces of good, you really only need the original 5 colors, and if that's all that got put into an "official decree" we'd be in great shape.... but there's room for improvement on the old system...
i'm rambling... it's understandable, i just got done with the most infuriating meeting of my professional career...

Wouldn't the Trollslayer just be a Blocker? Seems simple enough to me.

Just paint all the bases green. The figs show who's who!

Ouch, LF, this should be a beginning of a topic war

Seriously, we have talked about it, and altough I see an interest in making a small touch of colour which should indicate, by rotating on itself, if the player has played during the current turn, where is the real interest ?
I should see an interest in building teams, because it should be helpful if you'd like to compare 2 blitzers between 2 team rosters... but the minis ? If I remind it well, ring colour existed because all the minis had the same pose... (where is the topic on this subject ?)

I have a dream, that one day we will see these players not in terms of colour, but for their abilities on the pitch instead.

I just think it makes it easier for my opponent, especially when some of my converted figs aren't obvious. No one should be forced to use the base ring colour coding system, but if you do there should be a standard.

it is definitely a matter of sportsmanship, plain and simple... certainly if we were all using stock, unmodified citadel 3e miniatures to play the game with, the figure itself would be enough, but we aren't... some still use 2e figs, some convert the bb minis, some use converted wfb minis, some even use nasty little non-citadel minis (for shame)...
in the end, it's pretty annoying to sit down and have to think of all the things that are already important without having to ask over and over what that piece is...
basing systems allow your opponent to know at a glance what you have, in general terms (it's his job to remember which one has dauntless, eh)... and they help you keep your team sorted out pretty well too... it just comes down to making it more of a game and less of a military modelling project...
and i happen to think a team done up in base-rings has _more_ visual appeal than a team with just boring green rings because the pieces look like they have purpose...
as for troll slayers, there's dozens of permutations on making them blockers, making blitzers blockers and trollspalyers blitzers, on making longbeards blockers blitzers linemen and trollslayers blitzers, etc... in the end, so long as the other three positions are predictable, i can figure out what the fourth color is... we just like to make them purple... but if something were to become official again, finally, just the basic 5 colors would be fine, thanks...

It would be so cool if my team would finally arrive... (Shadowforge Bunnies.)
Played the ENTIRE SEASON waiting for them. Now we're in the playoffs. Winning the season with them would just be stylish.
Oh, and, to be on-topic: I want to colour my bases too.

That way I can mix the player position-figs (Linebunny and Blitzer that is) without causing problems.

I will be the leader of the non-base colouring faction! Aesthetics are more important

I'm with that sexy school girl, Anthony on this. People used to complain that all my dwarfs looked the same and that they couldn't remember which one had what. I like that. It's harder to hide a blitzer in a pack of longbeards when his base is a bright red beacon!
And oh yeah...I'm a visual person. I like the board to look right. It bugs me when people use grassy bases on my Astrogranite!

My opinion is that base rings aren't really needed, but doesn't hurt especially, as noted earlier, if you are using conversions/non-standard minis (ie non GW).
