Re: Anyone ready to change their anti-GW stance yet?
Quick online search turned it up for $85 with free shipping (in US). That seems plenty reasonable to me- that's about how much a game like this costs.
As for how I feel about GW- this is definitely a good step. What I really want to see is some continued support for their box games, instead of the splash releases they've been doing. Blood Bowl and Warhammer Quest, at least, seem like they could really use ongoing support.
If they do, that could really change my mind about a lot of what GW currently is.
Personally, I do not want to see GW as the bad guy- I want a world with a kinder, gentler, happier GW that contributes to the growing gaming community rather than the giant gorilla with his hands over his eyes screaming "You all do not exist!"

Me too ... me very too.odinsgrandson wrote: Personally, I do not want to see GW as the bad guy- I want a world with a kinder, gentler, happier GW that contributes to the growing gaming community rather than the giant gorilla with his hands over his eyes screaming "You all do not exist!"
However in the past ... I don't think it was "You all do not exist!" but more "we don't care that you exist ... you are irrelevant." I'm not ready to believe that GW has changed on that front ... but Andy Hoare is AMAZING. Dude posts to the Blood Bowl community several times a week AND answers questions on Facebook ... NO ONE at GW has EVER done that with Blood Bowl. So Andy gets all the credit in the world for me and definitely an A+ rating. Did I like Weeping Blades ... no ... but it is not broken ... just weighty, unnecessary and unfun ... however that is honestly for me a severely minor blip on how impressed I am with the man that is heading up Blood Bowl right now.

Athetics are very much down to individual tastes. The price tag is good but it is not for a full team and there is only one model for each positional which, for me, does not make them good looking. Unless they release extra single models you are having to buy two boxes to get the full Skaven team (without Rat Ogre).spubbbba wrote:I see some really mediocre looking teams often made of inferior materials and costing way more get raved about on here.

They've already stated that they're going to release booster packs to fill out rosters, like they've done with previous releases.Marlow wrote:Athetics are very much down to individual tastes. There are also 6 different sculpts in that Skaven box. 3 different linerats, a gutter, a blitzer and a thrower.

Pre-ordered pretty much everything available, needed a new board as mine looks like its had thousands of games played on while doubling up as a beer mat, which it has
The pricing is sensible the skaven actually seem on the cheapside, however theres still that voice in my head telling me its GW there gonnna screw things up somehow..... :?

The minis are good.
GW's current studio painters leave much wanting by today's standards, but I feel I can tell there are good minis underneath.
I do really like the humans. The Skaven look good to me, and I'm not very fond of the boxy orcs. But the poses and details look good all together.
I'm also a little bit wary of 12 man orc teams (especially orcs) since a full orc roster has almost no linemen on it. But I've got an orc team, so that's not an issue for me.
As I understand it, they'll be releasing a PDF with the "legacy teams" in it? Because I really can't go back to there being 8 teams for the game.

Correct a PDF will be issues with 23 teams in it ... the only Icepelt Rulebook team missing from it will be Slann. However, GW has confirmed they like the Slann roster its just a miniatures and WFB tie issue at this point that they are reviewing so even that team is not out. GW confirmed that they had no issue with the Slann still being NAF official.odinsgrandson wrote:As I understand it, they'll be releasing a PDF with the "legacy teams" in it? Re: Anyone ready to change their anti-GW stance yet?
I have always wondered, why the Slann weren`t replaced with something that would fit the latest BB universe setting. I mean, it could be "Pro-Skinks" for example, just like the Pro-Elves. The ruleset could still be the same.GW confirmed that they had no issue with the Slann still being NAF official.
Another option would be to replace the slannthemed positionals with slaaneshthemed ones. It`s not that far away...
@the topic itself
I never had a huge anti-GW stance. If I didn`t like anything, I just left it without really caring further for it. Then again....I`m not as involved as maybe other folks, so I`m probably not that emotionally tied at that point.

Re: Anyone ready to change their anti-GW stance yet?
I've never really been pro or anti GW. My first real intro to their products was Blood Bowl and I think a friend also had Warhammer Fantasy RPG. I thought the art was ugly, and didn't understand the world. I played one game of Blood Bowl (stupidly insisting on a Halfling team), got trounced, argued that the game had nothing to do with football, and promptly forgot about it. Somewhere along the way (a story I likely told on this board sometime in the past), I re-discovered Blood Bowl and got hooked on the game.
There was also Warhammer Quest, but that's one for another time.
Anyways, I really liked Blood Bowl, but long after GW had anything to do with the game. I was essentially enamored with a game that was dead to the company. So, I in turn, had no real feelings about the company itself. Other than maybe quietly wishing they would do something with the game I enjoyed. I've read lots of comments by people who had more interactions with GW and much more investment than myself, and I can certainly understand why there is a lot of bitterness.
Personally, I've pre-ordered the game. Did I need to? Not really, as it's basically the same CRP rules. I have a lot of the old GW (as well as other) miniatures, so I don't really need new stuff to play. I guess in part, I'm giving them money to show there is interest in the game, and hopefully get all the old teams back into circulation. Beyond that, it would be nice to see some new material/life brought into the game as well. I've sometimes felt that the game is very stagnant (good sides and bad sides to that). It's been pretty bad though, in the interest of trying to get new players. They typically look at the art, find out it was made in 1994, and then don't really want to bother.
My favorite BB minis tended to be the ones made by GW originally. Possibly due to some nostalgia for the rulebooks and watching my friends play. However, I found the difference in scales between the different teams to sometimes be off-putting. There were also some minis that turned out a little better (never cared for those Pro-Elf sculpts) than others. I'm hoping with the new set that there will be more consistency. Also that we'll finally see minis that never saw the light of day DELF Runner, Beast of Nurgle. Also teams like Ogres, Chaos Pact, Underground, Slann, etc. that never had official miniatures releases. Even the thought of new sculpts for SPs like Griff Oberwald, Lord Borak, etc., has me pretty excited. If they do actual Blood Bowl teams like the Chaos All-Stars, with their bizarre line-up, I'd be doing some back-flips.
I'm hoping for a really good future, at least I'm joining in for the initial ride to see.
