I was initially excited to see the rules up but its taken a turn. I didn't think that they might consider the boxed rules as being official. How would they work that out? That would a drag even though I'm sure there's a few people still using those rules, internet being the devil and all. I was also thinking about this stripped down package and what it has to do with the legal team. Is it possible that these guys are so deep into their psycho lawyer mindset that are now trying to keep their own asses covered. Didn't Galak write a bunch of background stuff? Maybe legal is afraid that if they publish any of that or give any sort of credit then that could be held against them. They don't consider the fact that some people just do things for the love of it and not because they want something in return. I can see them saying," No, no, no,
We can't publish this. It's got new material and all these people credited for writing it. They might try to sue us if we didn't pay them."

Who knows, maybe someone with the technical know how will edit the LRB 5+ pdf, and create a better looking LRB 6. I wish someone from my league started doing it when GW threatened to not host it at all...

for what is worth, at least my league will run with the REAL LRB6. I will see the posted ruleset only tonight, because my company server filters GW out (and surely they do well), but I really don't need it.

Personally, I'm going to give it a couple of weeks (I'm still hoping this is a rush job because they've been getting an earful about getting it posted), and see if a "better" version isn't hosted, but if it's not, I think file-hosting sites will need investigating.

LRB1 is now official? Feels like a personal insult

Well, I'll use the "tournament pack", thank you very much. And I suspect it will be hard to stomp out the existence of a prettier LRB6 all over the web. Though I suspect they'll just threaten to yank the tournament pack off their website.

GW has already shown their hand. I say we show them ours and be done with it. They cannot control the games that happen across the world, nor can they prevent the rules at which non GW events are played. If they wish to invest the time and money to seek out leagues and conventions holding LRB6 (which they cannot), they will quickly find that the community is bigger than what they expected.

There will be no stopping Italy, Spain, France or any other playgroups outside of the US and GB.

The only players who will play the boxed edition will be new players. When they come to conventions, they will be met by those who hold the rules by which we choose to play. They will all be initiated into the core soon enough.

I do not see why it is so hard. Get those copies out there and let's show GW we do not give a 'rats arse' what they think.

If I was at Cyanide right now ... I'd be see if I had a way to take legal action against GW for making the rules they told me to use for my game now OPTIONAL.

I think this is a good point.
Could anyone who is active on the cyanide forums please make cyanide aware, that the rules their game is using is as of yesterday no longer official?

I understand this document as a first (and I believe friendly and well meant) communication attempt by someone at GW to tell the community that LRB6 has supporters at GW. Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm convinced everything will be fine, once they figured out how to produce a rule book without making miniatures for it.

Lovely knee-jerk reactions all around

They haven't said LRB1 rules are official, they are saying the online version is alternative. This makes very much sense IMHO, since those rules are quite different from the rules found in the box. I don't think it makes sense to call these rules official until they actually put it in the box.

The only thing that pisses me off is the lack of acknowledgement to the people who actually put the work in.

As to distributing a modified LRB 5.0+: If you do so, do so knowing that you're directly violating GW's policy using Galak's work and that they likely WILL look at Tom when they find it.
