"New" Tabletop BB shown at 'Spiel', inc. skaven, dwarves

Post by the_Sage »

Hi all,

Figured this might interest you. GW showed off the "new" blood bowl at Spiel (the biggest board game convention in the world) in Essen, Germany this weekend. Here's some footage of the dwarf, skaven and human models. My friends who went to Spiel also recorded a short bit of a GW employee explaining what is and isn't different about the new blood bowl; you can find that here.

Interesting, I personally never had the feeling that there were any balance changes needed for the Human team.
I wonder if that means, that more teams will have some balance adjustments? :-?
Or could that just be a typo?

The human team performance in the game doesn't match the fluff, and a price drop on the catchers is probably the least controversial of the many suggestions there have been to give the team a nudge upwards.
Also out of the box humans are inferior to out of the box orcs, so I can understand GW wanting to balance the two starting teams somewhat.

And no, it's definitely not a typo, Andy Hoare has confirmed it on FB.

The rules with the special play cards which seems to be a change from where special play cards were only as inducements to both teams getting I think I heard 1 to 3 per game. Are they proposed as optional?

I'm buying it as a collector/fan rather than a player (haven't picked up the lead in years) so my main interest is the fluff.. Wonder how much is in tact from LRB5 :P (heck, wonder if anyone that worked on LRB5 even has their names in the credits)

I sure hope that's not optional. The mandatory special play cards were the greatest thing lost from 3rd edition. Cards are the best way of curbing stalling in Blood Bowl.

Might also drive sales of the cards themselves if everyone had to use them. Would be surprised if GW didn't make some tweaks with an eye on their bottom line.

I was checking out the new blood bowl website and the team description for Skaven mentions the following:

Skaven teams are very fast and very sneaky. If you can catch one of them, a superhuman feat to be sure, they struggle to take a hit. Known for being the most prolific cheaters in the game, some of the players are proficient assassins.

Do you think the comment about assassins is a new player or rules for secret weapons? Or is this just a reference to Skitter Stab-Stab?

Thanks a mill Darkson for confirming the changes.

While I still wouldn't have had an issue if they wouldn't have changed anything for the human teams (but then, I never cared for winning or losing), I also have no issues with any balance adjustements therefore.
Was really just curious.

Was able to take some proper look at the website myself today. Some nice infos there.
Not the greatest unboxing video, but I enjoyed it nontheless. :D

Really curious to see how this new edition will turn out.

Regarding the comments on 'core' rules etc. I've had it from the horses mouth, James Hewitt, that 'the rules ain't changed, couple of tweaks to leagues but the actual rules are the same'. This was in reply to my comments about there being no mention of fouls or hand offs in the action on the video.

But clearly rosters are not considered core rules, so I wonder what else is considered note core rules.
