That depends on whether they change the number of squares - if they made the pitch wider or longer then you might need to.
That's true, although Andy suggested they wouldn't be changing the core game mechanics. I guess time will tell.

As long as it has the same number of squares - If we need to use new rules AND the board has a different number of squares then we would have to

The Orc does look cool though :)

I am experiencing deja vu to a day before I took up BB: a wfb/40k fanatic at the local game store was buying, painting, and organizing for a small, local tourney..... "You guys have a reputation for slavishly buying whatever GW puts out," I quipped....

Yeah.... :-? that slave mentality is a real mind killer....

Supposedly some slaves just love the master's/mistress' whip....

Can't understand it....

I prefer freedom.... ?!?

If they change the number of squares then it completely changes the game, more squares and the elves and other fast teams benefit less squares means bashy teams can catch and corner faster teams more easily etc, unless they mess around with the team stats. But whoever worked out the Maths behind this game did a good job already. For example I only just realised that a player needs more that Movement 4 to get behind an opposing player without dodging. So imagine they increase the size of the pitch then increase the movement of players, Dwarfs with movement 5 or even 6 amazing :orc: Then you have elves moving even faster... I'm not the best at maths but i'm sure any % increase in these things will leave teams significantly weaker/stronger. e.g. there is no chance to catch elves or dwarfs can form cages up without trying to bash through the LOS.

I think adding some new teams or at least more Star Players would be cool. They could re-do the boxed set however they want, but leave it open for new and old coaches to buy in as they want, after all, these new coaches are going to need someone to play with.

I care whether my opponents ST3 beastman is smaller than my ST4 Ulf, I like you can read off the minis which one is the stronger. That orc, which may just be a blitzer and not even a BoB, is as big as Morg, if that base is 32 mm.. AndI'm aware that he is not as tall, but you have to take the entire bulk of the miini into consideration.. Same as the Volmarian team... I know they're shorter than humans (barely) but their bulk looks ST4. And the Bulls look ST5.

I just found out about this today when I went to renew my NAF membership. I personally don't care if GW messes with the rules, as I can just keep using the rules I like and ignore whatever they send in the box set.

I am just hopeful for a larger push of Blood Bowl more into the tabletop gaming mainstream. Maybe nothing happens and Blood Bowl continues on as it has been, but maybe Blood Bowl becomes more popular and more people start playing. That is not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

Well, what if: A lot of people start playing Blood Bowl, but they are playing a game that has larger minis on larger bases, hence a shorter field, hence new rules. Is NAF going to follow those new rules? Are all NAF-tournaments then required to follow those? Can you only play with GW minis? So when you meet people and they say that they play blood bowl, you have to ask "which version?" and then you realize there AREN'T any new blood bowl players playing your game.

This is totally a nightmare scenario, of course.. but also totally feasible.

This. This is a great description of my personal uneasiness with this whole situation.

I am not overly worried at this time. Blood Bowl 2 is still relatively new and Cyanide will continue to garner more players as DLC's are released. It wouldn't make much sense to drastically change the table top game to what is being played online. I would bet status quo for many things. But then again, they did do AoS. Meh. I play Kings of War now.

Regarding pitch size and scale models, our league uses all kinds of miniatures. I would rather have people play the game than not. My custom board is almost 4 x 6 feet with 1.5 inch squares. We don't change the models to play on it. And we also use 2nd edition astrogranite and other boards.

Players have used the following proxies over the past four years: mini's, lego, smurfs, heroclix, cardboard standups, and even wooden blocks painted up similar to fumble (with numbers, x, and /). The only complaint anyone had was the blocks. They are functional and in a certain way clever, but a figurine makes everything so much easier to visualize at a glance.

Yes, let's hope.

I honestly would love for new players to find the game that I love.

I played through all six LRBs (and the era of the Jervis newsletters). Each version changed some things here and there- mostly for the better, but occasionally for the worse. Ultimately, no LRB has screwed up the essentials of Blood Bowl.

I haven't played the computer game, but from what I've seen, the changes it has made don't lose what is essentially great about Blood Bowl.

A new edition that looks like that would be awesome. I'd just think of it as LRB 7 and keep playing. And I'd probably add Khorne and Brettonian teams to my collection.

Do we know if Forge World will produce only 4 teams (Orc, humans, nurgle and dwarfs) or if others are planned after?

I assume that, seeing the pitch and rules on the BB-(related)games, GW will more or less follow those. I mean, it would make sense.
