to me the human thrower looks like the 5th ed thrower, minus the gigantic spikes...

did axiom mention the size of the minis? i'm worried that they are going to be BIG.

I wonder if that base is 25mm... or something else, like the new 32mm used for Space Smurfs. That would be 28% bigger bases. But measuring the orc assuming that base, it would be ~30mm tall. :-?

Those drawings are pretty f'n awful, I'm shocked that they get the quality of the sculpt they do off of those drab, yawn inducing designs. The pose of that thrower in miles behind either of the 5th edition throwers. What is his left hand doing? It's not pointing at anything (played out anyway) nor is it in a proper position to throw the ball (look at an NFL QB to see what it should be doing). I highly doubt I'll get the box set anyway but they'd better do better than that human thrower IMO. S.

The bases were definitely larger than 25mm, I'd guess at 32mm.

As for Mark Bedford's sketches, he's a very competent figure designer - just look at his FW output. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the sketches - I think they're very early ideas, rather than fully realised concepts.

Why couldn't GW just leave BB alone?

They're just going to make a mess of everything. It's already creating a divide in the community.

Bigger pitches? Why? The current ones work fine.

Bigger bases? Why? The current ones work fine.

Larger scale? Why? I don't understand the scale creep. +/- 28 mm is fine.

My enthusiasm for Blood Bowl is waning more and more because of GW's renewed interest. I can't afford their renewed interest. Their renewed interest is going to cost people a lot of money when they change everything around. Old diehards like me are going to have a harder time finding players for the Blood Bowl we like...

I really do hope I'm wrong. I really do. But I have a feeling I won't be.

Time will tell....

money, money and money.. It's obvious that they are changing the scale so that old figures/3rd party figures and pitches soon will be obsolete. And I totally agree that that thrower is the most lackluster I've seen so far. However I doubt that my league will make a switch to this new format as there's a lot invested in the old and it works FINE

A bigger scale will make Willy miniatures look less ridiculously over-sized. ;)

I'm normally a very big "doom & gloomer" person, but I'm going to hold off on the "woe is me" until at least closer to release.

If the models are stupidly oversized, I won't buy them (will stick with 3rd parties).
If the rules are rubbish and/or incompatible with the stuff I have now, I won't play it.
If the NAF insists on following the new rules (and they're rubbish as above) then I don't play in NAF tourneys.

I am looking forward to it. The concept sketches and sculpts show that they are looking to make the teams look more fantasy football than the last edition, which is great. As far as them tweaking the rules, I expected that, so not really worried. Just as those who didn't like the rule changes from LRB4 to 5, or 5 to 6, those who don't like the changes can go on playing CRP rule set. I will buy it when it comes out, as long as it's not horribly overpriced (compared to GW's normally overpriced games).

The scale issue is just irrelevant in my view. I already play games against 2nd edition Citadel, 3rd edition Citadel, Willy Miniatures and others - they're all slightly different scales, ranging from nearly 25mm through to nearly 40mm.

I already play games on the titchy astrogranite, standard board, and large scale custom built boards.

It makes no difference, other than a minor aesthetic one. Different scales and boards do not invalidate older models. The only way that would happen would be if GW decide that a team is comprised of 6 players - a digger, an abseiler, a snake charmer, an animal and a boat.

I believe the ethos is to reinvigorate one of their old games, one which is fondly remembered and widely supported.

Problem is many games would just not happen on a bigger board. Bigger models = bigger skill rings = bigger squares = bigger board. Our league can only *just* fit the board on the pub table. Same in our school league. I don't mind having bigger/smaller models, just the current dimensions of the board are a big plus for BB - any larger and there would be problems.

But you don't have to use the new board. Or the new minis. Or the new bases...

Also, to reiterate, the human thrower is a concept figure only - it hasn't been fully rendered or completed. The finished product may look nothing like it :)

From one of the pictures, I measured the orc to be ~30mm tall. It's wider than tall. No good photo to do the same with the human, which I hope is the reason the arms look so bad and not that they are. So no idea what is going on. I hope they are just 3D printed tests and they fix them.

That depends on whether they change the number of squares - if they made the pitch wider or longer then you might need to.
