There is a lot of luck in the game, but the luck factor applies to both players equally. The skill is in making your opponent rely more on luck than you. If you don't pick up the dice, you can't fail. If you get a touchback every kickoff and your opponent never makes you dodge, block, pass, handoff or pickup, you'll never have to worry about odds. The point is you don't let this happen - you make your opponent roll dice and make it as hard as possible to do what it is they need to do to score. Similarly, you structure your plays so that you have the best chance of doing what you need to do to score.
There is a luck element, but you swing the odds with skillful play. If there was no luck you may as well be playing go or chess. The fun of Bloodbowl is you always need a bit of luck in your games, you can never predict with certainty the outcome of a game. On any given Sunday any player can walk away with a win.
That also answers your second question - there is no one best player of bloodbowl, at least on the tournament circuit. There is, however, at least 20-30 great players who have every chance of walking away with a trophy at any given tournament.

the best that would do is give you the best coach of the naf...Dave wrote:No 1 on the NAF ranking ??
Sputnik ??

there are plenty of us on here who aren't in that league for whatever reason...self included. now i'm not saying i am the best coach on here, but i don't think i should be automatically discounted just because i don't play in the right league.

Don't listen to any of them!! They're all just self absorbed egoists with an overinflated sense of importance (ie thay all think they're the best).
OK, seriously most people here will give good advice on playing the game. Still, I think your boyfriend could still give some good advice. Speaking of Jon, haven't seen him post here in quite awhile, you actually have been posting here more than he has this year (so far).

Agree on you Zombi and wesleytj but his 1st place ranking is an indication.
Agree with marcus as well. The big 'top' of the coaches is explained by that bit of luck that is in the game.
One dice roll can cost you one TD or even the victory what could cost you dearly in tournament ranking.
That's part of the fun isn't it??

John won't advise me. It's a man's game. If I got better than him (which frankly, I was before my mummy had even finished tucking his bandage in) he would probably start dusting off his dusty old epic stuff (No! NO! NOT THE BORING LITTLE PEOPLE!). Plus, he hasn't really played any more than I have, and normally against me, and normally I'm naked as a diversion tactic, so he's no good to me. His objectivity is shot to bits. Maybe... I'm the best coach on here, and because I've not played any of you, no-one realises. Maybe... I'm unbeatable. (Can you win money at this?)

I had an ex girlfriend was going through some 'female problems' and we couldn't have sex for a few weeks (or was it longer? Seemed like longer...
)
Anyway, she played Blood Bowl with me when we ran out of other things to do...she hated it. She didn't like it but she absolutely despised all things 'Warhammer' and Star Wars CCG! (I think she had a sneaking suspicion that I spent more money on the games than her...she was right!)
