Heheh had it since November and still not finished it, got a few chapters left but christ, it's a struggle to get through. It's just so forced, I'll still get the third one, but I'm not really sure how much Forbeck actually enjoyed writing this, I know he does other novels and work and I think it was a case of "Get this contract out the way asap"

That's a shame if that is the case. I often think that GW pushes stuff out to appease those of us that like other games other then 40k and Warhammer. That mentality even seems to spill over into the Black Library. The Warhammer and 40K books seem to get good reviews and the other titles, base off other games, just seem to fall short.Ithilkir wrote: It's just so forced, I'll still get the third one, but I'm not really sure how much Forbeck actually enjoyed writing this, I know he does other novels and work and I think it was a case of "Get this contract out the way asap"
I am very disappointed as I was just about to pick up both these and give them a read. Guess I will just move on to the Space Wolf series when I finish the Maelstrom book.

By far the best 40K books I've read. By a landslide. For Fantasy, consider the Brunner series, the Slayer novels, or the Witchhunter books.

I always liked the Gotrek and Felix books, and "Drachenfels" is a good book too (one of the first GW novels as well...must be ten years old now).
I like the Gaunts' Ghosts books too. Nice to have a series not afraid of killing major characters.
Like I sadi, the first BB book was alright...this one is horrible though.

I agree... wtf is crappy soft-core porn doing in a BB novel that will probably be read by minors.Thadrin wrote: Don't get me started on the "love" scenes.
Bad, bad book.
Not that I am a prude, but I was a little surprised that a) that was in it and b) that it was so bad...
This book IMHO was the worst book I have ever read and even though the first was 'bad' it was ok in that trashy pulp sort of way.
This one though is the real pits.

I didn't think Dead Ball was all that bad. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever read, by any means.
A Dead Ball can also refer to what happens when certain penalties or fouls are commited that forces the stop of play, such as Illegal Motion, Illegal Formation, False Start or Offsides: Unabated to the QB. Offsides (crossing the line of scrimmage by the defense) is not a dead ball foul, because play continues and if the play results in less than a 5 yard gain by the offense, the ball is advanced 5 yards and no loss of down. You'll see commentators call it a "free play", because no matter what happens, the offense will move at least 5 yards forward, assuming no other penalties occur.
Oh, and I agree about the Eisenhorn books. The Ravenor series is also very good, as is the Gaunt's Ghosts books, and the Ciaphas Cain stories.

In a nutshell I thought that the first BB book was fun and fast, if badly written. (never lend a book like this to any friend in the editing business, they don't stop going on about it! Although even I as a dyslexic could pick up on baltant typos!) The second book.....well brainless, corny, bitty (not in a little britain sense), and poor.
Here's hoping the 3rd that comes out in april apparently based in a chaos realm will be more like the first, but proofread!

Just finished it. It wasn't terrible, and I chuckled a few times. I will take any blood bowl products from GW that I can get.Xtreme wrote:So noone has anything good to say about it? Great my preordered copy is sitting in my mailbox now, I can't wait to get home.

There's an interview with the author on the Have Games Will Travel podcast, http://havegameswilltravel.libsyn.com/i ... t_id=72146.
It's an interesting listen, he talks about how he became a "pen for hire" for various fantasy series. He doesn't talk much about the Blood Bowl book other than that he sent GW about 12 or 15 different pitches and when they said, "We like THAT one, the Blood Bowl one" he was pretty suprised.
