And that's another point worth making, certainly for the UK. Do we know what WHW is doing with those pitches, has anybody asked Andy or the WHW manager?
WHW will no doubt be getting a stock of new pitches, and it'd be a shame to see the 29mm pitches they have now, which were brand new in May, get skipped.
I'm happy to inquire about them.

Any word on where this will be sold? I prefer to shop at my friendly local independent game shop, and will delay my purchase if they try typical GW nonsense like only selling it on their terrible online store.

Cool. Don't delay, they were very quick to chuck the old ones.sann0638 wrote:Hoping to get them from nick.
Ask them if they are getting it in. If they aren't it's because they have decided not to. GW has made it available for all trade accounts.rolo wrote:Any word on where this will be sold? I prefer to shop at my friendly local independent game shop,

Good call, they'll be selling it and recommend that I pre-order. So I will!JT-Y wrote:Ask them if they are getting it in. If they aren't it's because they have decided not to. My FLGS is getting it and has asked if would run an event for him*.... Which he has never been interested in before, so this is good
and if this trend carries around other stockists we may should see an influx of new leagues and tournies
*exactly what type of "event" is to be determined, but he is aware of my history is organising, running and reffing tournies.

Re: Blood bowl site and unboxing...
Yesterday I called into a local model store to pick up some new Vallejo colours and got talking to the guy about blood bowl (he basically thought the combination of colours were strange and wanted to know what I was painting). He went on to tell me that his mate was the manager at one of the local GW stores and that he has already started a league in the store ahead of the release.
I just need to find the time to go down and check it out.

It is mostly a 40K site but I don't think this is a bad thing as hopefully a novice doing the opening will appeal to newer players. Were it an experienced player then they may well end up looking at the technical stuff such as searching for any more small rules changes.babass wrote:it's sad (imo), to film some guys that don't know the game opening the boxIthilkir wrote:Bell of Lost Souls (booooooooooo) has an unboxing up with a good look at the manual - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfbxoLI_S4g
The change of board size could be a bit of a dilemma, I suspect organisers will have to provide old boards or ask people to bring spares if they insist on banning the new ones. Otherwise it will likely put off anyone new to the game if they have to go searching for old kit just to take part.

Re: Blood bowl site and unboxing...
Most of the tournament organizers I know are collecting old boards to provide them to players for their events if they are new to the game. Its the only way certain events can fit all the players in with the table space they have.spubbbba wrote:The change of board size could be a bit of a dilemma, I suspect organisers will have to provide old boards or ask people to bring spares if they insist on banning the new ones. I've had one event ask me what could be done for a bulk discount for the felt mat pitches I sell as they are fairly affordable and very easy to store.
So I think event organizers will be able to work about this. Because of 3rd party vendors ... there will still be a lot of places selling old sized pitches AND old sized range rulers. I know SP Miniatures, Comixininos and Impact! all sell old sized range rulers at good prices.

I'm kinda drunk, so if this sounds weird, forgive me.
I was over on dakka dakka and when I mentioned that gw were just being dicks by making the pithch bigger, I was shouted down and called a troll.
What I maen was , why the hell did'n t granny make the squares 40mm, like tom invented if they were gonna make the squares bigger?
GW will always take the dick rout if they possibly can.
I guess I'll buy 2 box's as I have a few $$ to spare

Re: Blood bowl site and unboxing...
1. I think Thunderbowl (at least, their might be others) had 40mm pitches long before Tom made the 40mm felt pitch.bound for glory wrote:What I maen was , why the hell did'n t granny make the squares 40mm, like tom invented if they were gonna make the squares bigger?
2. Because GW know at least their UK audience - if the majority of UK players are going to struggle to use the new pitch on their regular gaming table then they'd have even more trouble (and therefore GW would get more negativity) if they'd gone bigger. No idea if the same problems will/are regular around the world.
3. Cost - anytime they make the pitch bigger then they need to make packaging bigger (obviously) and probably need to make the models bigger (to stop them looking tiny) which all increases the cost of making the product, leading to either smaller profit margins or increasing the price to the customer (with the potential loss in sales).
4. There might be practical reasons - for example, at one point they said that everything they printed (boards/books etc) had to be of a certain size or smaller (or page number for books) because they couldn't print bigger for practical (and cost) reasons - perhaps that's still in effect for "hard" printing rather than "soft" mat printing?
Of course, I'd have prefered they kept the same size pitch as we have no (in fact, I'd have been more likely to buy it if we had a new 3rd ed size pitch) but I guess they wanted it "new" to encourage sales.

Re: Blood bowl site and unboxing...
I have the impression that they want the "new" Blood Bowl to be the same scale as Age of Sigmar or 40k, where models are de facto on a 30ish mm scale to the eyes.
Bigger models meant bigger bases, therefore bigger field.

Re: Blood bowl site and unboxing...
40mm is really just a massive pitch (heck I used them as blankets for my son when he was young) ... so 40mm would just have been an insane pitch issue for a commerical product.
The pitch was scaled up as they felt the miniatures should match the scale of their other miniature ranges they now produce ... those miniatures are much larger and so need larger bases. However ... I will say from everything I've seen that they could have gone with just putting everything on 30mm flats that so many of us have been using and been fine which if you went with 30mm squares ... the board would only be slightly larger.
Definitely do not think GW did this for any reason of "dickishness" ... I think they scaled up for AoS and the pitch is the result of that upscale. Makes sense for a commercial decision even if it is not friendly for the tournament scene.
