BBC was cool back in the day, but making something as uselful as blood-bowl.net will be tough IMO.
yes that site does have lots of nice stuff as well. There are some features that it doen't have that the new BBC will contain though and it will be pretty on the eyes, which I know isn't overall important, but interface will be one of the nicer things about it.

I will talk to Andy this week and see if he wants to talk about the other added features. That is if anyone cares.

I need to show zombie that site can be updated :D

I talked to andy and he wants the info not to get out.
However I can say the stuff will be up by May/June at the latest.

If you want to pm me or email me or contact me howerver i might be able to leak out a little bit or two without andy finding out, unless of course he reads this and yells at me later. 8)

Anyone who wants to place a bet? I say that by the end of June, it won't be out yet. I can pay the bet through PayPal. Anyone's in?

hehe zombie.. I knew you would respond when i put a may/june date up. I am a bit amazed you jumped on that so quick though..

how much you want to bet via paypal? $100 ? $200? or more.. I can always do something to at least update the site somehow. I am RL friends with Andy. Also this time More people are involved then just one person on the site.

But i understand. The site has been offline for too long. so your negative attitude isn't completely out of the place this time.

Funny how you associate 'colours' with 'eras'. Red/Grey on black I have fond memories of BBC, just got online, first real online BB community I participated in, blah blah blah.
The 'green' era I associate with pop-ups and flame wars, it got ugly enough for me to migrate over here virtually from the word go, and for quite a while this was a smaller, friendlier alternative to the BBC. The BBC was getting the hits, the posts and Pinky/Morg/Zombie/Acerak/Neo going at each other with big sticks. Then of course, people gradually migrated over here.
It's changing all the time, there's now of course the GW BB forum, there's an awful lot of leagues with their own dedicated forums (and don't think we don't spy on you ECBBL boys! ) and of course there's now forums on the NAF site.
I think there's room for all, there doesn't have to be one 'dominant' site at the expense of the others.
So good luck to Andy and whatever he's got planned for the BBC, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what's coming up, but I believe the days of one 'be all and end all' site are over, too many changes over the last few years...

yes, but that shows the popularity of bb is on the rise and THAT is a good thing..

Hey, you don't count, cause the end result depends (at least partially) on you. But i'll take other people's bets if they're reasonable.

Lets bear in mind how long its been in process...I'm sure it will be great, but the point is that alot of people have wrote it off. Another fact I keep hearing is that you pay for the same stuff you get for free playing in RT events. I'm not sure if that will be true or not, if it , it will be a valid complaint.

Well, apart from me not seeing any RT Blood Bowl tournaments, the NAF membership offers a lot for your measly $10 annual membership. even if there were RT tourneys for BB, there is no reason they can't be NAF sanctioned.

That said, membership gets you cool black blocking dice, nuff said.

Also, the website is a huge part of the NAF. For those who are interested in the tournament scene (and just about 200 people are so far since launch...), rankings are a hell of a lot of fun. You don't get that at RT. You also don't get the support to run your own events, like advertising and dedicated, experienced people to help those who have never run events before. I am sure that the NAF will spawn many many tournaments over the next year or two compared to even last year. We will also be offering tracking for leagues in the future which will make it even better.

So sure, you have to pay, but you get a lot in return. We wouldn't charge anything if we could, but running the site takes money, buying cool dice costs money, and all the other things we dream up to make the NAF even cooler will cost money too. All that for 10 bucks a year.

I joined up, I'm just playing devils advocate, and talking about other peoples concerns. Currently the NAF has very little actual content, and most people don't even know what its there for. I don't even know, I just figured $10 for those dice was worth it especially since very few people around here will join  RTs get put in WD, and the RT tourney package has everything you need to run a great tourney. If NAF gets as well organized as RT events are I'll be amazed. I hope it goes great...thats why I joined up, its just that I don't see the popularity being very broad or longlasting. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

<Martyn jumps on his personal high horse! >

Remember the first great rule of website design: CONTENT OVER FORM!!!! Just because a website looks great when you load it from a local machine on your browser of choice does not mean that it will download fast to someone on the other side of the world and that this person will appreciate it when it doesn't look at all nice on their choice of browser.

Yes, in an ideal world we would all be using the latest super-dooper up-to-date version of Netscape (sorry can't stand Micro$loth Internet Explorer :puke: ) but we don't.

The new NAF site looks, erm, quite naff on my (rather old) browser here at work. I'm sure it will look great with the more modern version I have installed at home, but that is the state of things.

SECOND RULE OF WEBSITE DESIGN: Always validate with W3C - if it doesn't validate then redesign.

Martyn
