Re: My Son's first day with Blood Bowl
Slightly off topic but my 6 year old girl loves dunger derby - she thinks it is hilarious when a pig goes silly and knocks itself out on a wall.
She's halfway through painting an Orc, with pink armour of course and we had a big discussion about why the skin needed to be green and not pink too...
I'll need to look into candyland...

Re: My Son's first day with Blood Bowl
At age 6, Candyland might already be a bit boring. It's literally a "roll and move" game, except colored cards take the place of dice when determining how far to move. It's aimed at kids that can't reliably count to 6 yet.
I'm not saying definitely don't bother. Depending on the child they could get something from it for quite a while. But at age 6 there might be better games.

My 4-year old daughter spent yesterday painting some Blood Bowl orcs. They are looking pretty good, even have an ink wash. Just a few more and we can try out her team in a game.

Just a question, the metal miniature aren't they toxic for children ? I have in mind that they contain lead. Perhaps it's no more the case now.

Maybe we should come up with a collective name for these young players. Ben has tried playing as orcs, but he doesn't like the cage game (although he loves to SMASH my 'umies). He loves to throw and catch.
He is saving for his first set of paints, so he can paint a team himself

I used plastic figures but the metal figures are now white metal and contain no lead, although I do still have some lead figures.

Conversation I had today - my boys had been playing with Skaven v (I couldn't remember).
Me: I hope no-one dodged away from the rat ogre!
Him: He did, and rolled a 3.
Me: then he failed!
Him: No, because he's an elf.
Smart alec.

For the 8 & up crowd, or a clever 6 yr old, try Hey, That's My Fish. Rules are easy and the strategy can grow as they grow. Get the travel version. It's only $10 and the board won't be huge. My family loves it.

Is that the one where you move pengiuns and collect tiles? If so it awesome....Lychanthrope wrote:For the 8 & up crowd, or a clever 6 yr old, try Hey, That's My Fish. My boy (11) loves sopio ( card game) and also unexploded cow ( card game that involves dice, and blowing up cows.... ) but still does not have the patience to learn BB

@ gloworm Yes! It is the game where you move penguins around and collect fish. Much more fun than Chutes & Ladders, Hi Ho Cherrio, and Candyland.

Re: My Son's first day with Blood Bowl
Really cool story. Hoping to be able to play blood bowl with my two boys in a couple of years as well.. Currently they are 2½ and 1 year old. Right now the big one is quite interested in some of my other games (Marvel boardgame, Chess and Game of Thrones are the favourites) and love everything with knights and dragons so there is hope.

Re: My Son's first day with Blood Bowl
Started my son with Blood Bowl earlier this year thru' happy coincidence. Uncovered my old box while clearing out the spare room, which caught his eye so we had a game that evening. Next day we bumped in to a couple of guys in our local GW who were about to start a league, and he's never looked back.
Taking him to his first (and my) first tournament this month which hopefully he'll enjoy.

Just had twin daughters, not yet 2 weeks old yet. I'm already thinking how I can get them into the game.
