Re: How much will community get to bid for BB rights?
Yup, but at the same time you had Galak basically advising NAF to playtest the roster in the wild. In reaction, NAF had to request a moratorium on its use and some TOs even protested and said they were going to use it anyway. All I'm pointing to is that there is a clear lack of authority over the game that suddenly causes a strong push to bring the Khorne roster to the tabletop (as opposed to being dismissed like every other house-ruled roster). Without the BBRC, or something like them, this will keep happening. NAF has opted not to fill the void.
Buying up the IP would liberate us from this scenario. It's a pipe dream I know, but that's a clear incentive to take the rights.

God if the IP was owned by the fans that really would be the death of the game. I doubt the 'community' would have the ability to make a single decision about what to do with the IP..

Yep, this would be the biggest problem. Take the Simpsons episode where Bart, Milhouse and Martin buy a comic book together and multiple the number of owners by many magnitudes. Chaos ensues!robsoma wrote:God if the IP was owned by the fans that really would be the death of the game. Let's face it, people would have so many different directions that they'd want to take the game that it would cause an inevitable massive schism amongst those people that had put their money in.

As this is just a theoretical and silly situation, there is no need to go further after "purchasing" BB IP.
As stated, just imagine your favourite scenario afterwards and interrogate yourself how much money you would put on the table personally.
As said, I did this exercise and while I think I just shall contribute with 50-100$, I realize that I would put as 500$ from my own. Quite far away from my first impression. And just because I sit down 10 min. and try to imagine that situation.
Taking into acount, BTW, my present funds scenario. I could afford 500$ quite easily. For sure if I would be multimillionaire, I will put the 3M$ myself. But the fun comes from imagine you with the same background in this situation.
Useless, yeah, but quite fun.
To the ones that critisize the topic. It is for me like imagine yourself in a zombie apocalypse. Where are your imagination? "What If?" was my favourite Marvel series ever.

well, as a few have said, should the Euromillions roll in, I would purchase the IP lock stock and barrel and then offer licences to certain miniatures companies to produce teams for me, then hire lawyers to look after me and recruit a paid BBRC to advise the community of the rules that I have some, albeit probably final veto say in after discussion and playtesting. the way it should be....
I would likely look to go the route of special one off teams with pre-written team sheets so that players and leagues could actually face off against legends on the pitch.
other whims that may appeal to me can be looked at after the numbers come up...

Interesting topic..
Let's fantasise a bit further: probably we will need a cashload of money. Instead of trying to raise enough money on a blood bowl forum, let's try to broaden the scope a bit. I think the most successful approach would be to start a kickstarter after negociating a price with GW.
what the rewards would be for the kickstarter, I leave entirely open for your imagination. .

In the wake of the Chapterhouse ruling, I don't think buying GW stock is a great idea right now.daloonieshaman wrote:easy

BTW, Stretch goal $100,000 - add or subtract one team of your choice!

That is pretty amusing. Spending all that capital to only control such an obscure part of GW's IP.
You should at least plan to commission a fanatic in squat terminator armour while you have controlling interest.

Re: How much will community get to bid for BB rights?
For what purpose? I mean, you could do so much more with that money than just give it to GW, whereby you'd have nothing left to actually do anything with.
Look at what Impact are achieving with 16+ figure plastic/resin teams for $35. $35! The numbers we're talking about being required to buy the game rights are enough to buy 57000 teams - that's 2000 teams for every single race in the game. Wouldn't it be better to reward the companies that have supported the game over one that has done nothing of benefit to the community for a decade, and has in that time in fact threatened its fansites with legal action, snubbed its rules committee, and withdrawn support for its tournament rank governing body?
If you want to support the game, don't give your cash to GW... instead, donate to TFF, FUMBBL and obblm; buy from Impact, Greebo, Willy, GreenDog, Neomics, Cominixos, Shadowforge, Heresy, Black Scorpion, FFFields; take up a NAF subscription, attend a local tournament... you'll get a damn sight more for your share of the cash and the benefit will be felt by the entire community, not some dick organisation who couldn't give a toss about the game.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
