Re: Anyone read The Blood Bowl Books by Matt Forbeck?
JaM already gave the book an unsolicited plug (thanks) but the comment about the plane flight is exactly the opposite with the Feudball book. I've had a reader tell me he preferred the book to the in flight entertainment.
We've almost sold out of the first print run (250 copies), and I haven't had a disgruntled customer yet. We wrote the book (and the second is underway) because we concurred that Matt Forbeck didn't sum up the 'feel' of Blood Bowl properly, so the style of the book is very different.
All I can ask is that people try it. I arranged with the NAF president for one Feudball book to be given away at every UK BB tournament with more than 25 players for the next 12 months - so there's one free way to get a copy. The other option is to purchase a copy through the Feudball website or PM me. One copy can get passed around a whole league - if you split the cost it's only a few Euros each.

Excellent as my tournament is only 15 days away and well over 25 players, the only downside is i already own a copy of your novel, and its by far the best of its kind Ive read even if its not strictly BB!!Babs wrote: All I can ask is that people try it. Feudball is in my stack of books to read someday. I should really start making a dent in those and stop buying more.

You can usually find these in your local library. There is 2 in mine. Save you having to buy them.

Re: Anyone read The Blood Bowl Books by Matt Forbeck?
I just got all the books... and to my surprise- my 11 year old wants to start reading them, but are they age appropriate? I haven't had a chance to read any of them, so is there any foul language or inappropriate situations that I should be concerned about? He's read a lot of different books; Ender's Game, How to Train a Dragon series, and a the Percy Jackson type books, Wings of Fire, etc.. so is it along those lines with content?
Thanks
Thanks

My boys 12 and I'd have no problem with him reading them, from memory (it's a while since I read them) there's not any graphic sex and the violence mentioned is pretty cartoony, and BB related ( mostly)tommy316 wrote:I just got all the books... and to my surprise- my 11 year old wants to start reading them, but are they age appropriate? There is a bit of sex, but it's of the 'they kiss...camera pans away' variety.

I read them all, so I guess they are entertaining enough. Terribly written though and full of continuity errors (e.g. one character dies at the end of one book but is then alive at the start of the next).

They're crap, but great fun. I think Matt did exactly what he set out to do when handed the brief; write some fun books for something fun. Not everything needs to be gritty darkness shrouded in the end of the world covered in skulls.

Surely the brief would have been for "well written" as well?JT-Y wrote:They're crap, but great fun. Supposedly he's a good author, but after these awful efforts I wouldn't take the risk of reading something of his again.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

You'll get a disgruntled customer if you don't get the 2nd one out soon......I've been waiting since I finished the first one.Babs wrote: I haven't had a disgruntled customer yet. (and the second is underway) .

It would be peculiar to deviate from the standard BL brief so wildly.Darkson wrote:Surely the brief would have been for "well written" as well?
