So... the Blood Bowl books...

As a German, I agree on the names being stupid.
Reading in english with german words popping up all the time is quite weird.
But, I have to admit, after getting used to it, it kind of made the book funnier to me.
The names are sometimes so silly, they made the book even better for me!

Unforunately, when I moved, I somehow lost the first novel.
To bad they're out of print and used book here in germany will cost you an arm and a leg.
And what 5th book are you talking about?
Wasn't "Jungle" the last one?

Killer Contract wasn't through Black Library but through Boom Studios.

It's probably the best of the 5 "novels" Forbeck wrote, it just works better as a graphic novel.

I also speak german, since I live here, and I must say, yeah, the names were silly, but I kind of liked it. It put a certain quench of extra humor into the books and I don`t see why it shouldn`t work. To be honest, reading some peoples rosters I think the books had the better names I fully agree on some of the mentioned starplayernames. Wasn`t "Hack `n Slash" a name proposed by the community? No difference to Dunkel Hoffnung, which translates to "Dark Hope" in english and fits into the theme of him saving his family from a demonic curse.

Haha....gotta say, I laughed pretty loud when I read the players name from the Chaos All-Star: a big ratheaded player by the name of Mackey Mouse.

In my eyes "Rumble in the jungle" was the weakest of all five novels. I`m suprised, but I agree with Darkson on that on - Blood Bowl works quite well as a graphic novel. The visualization also brought some extra humor, like the big chaos sign on the explosion, when their dug-out blows up.

I thought they were poorly written and edited compared to what I'm used to reading. Can I do better? Hello no! The one thing these books do for me is get me psyched for Blood Bowl. If I have a long stretch without a game I start reading the first novel and by the end I'm anxious to get a game in. For that I thank Matt Forbeck for writing them.

Personally I like silly names & use quite a few in my teams. The books were OK but unless you are interested in Blood Bowl I would not recommend them. But they are the best Blood Bowl stories available, unless you know of better.

I would however recommend Terry Pratchett to every one surely he was the best.
