40mm gaming matts, range rulers, and bits

Post by graeme27uk »

Hi,

Does anyone use the 40mm gaming matts?
Are they better than the normal BB pitches?
What about range rulers for 40mm matts, I assume you must be able to get them but from where?

Also, the tokens you can get for stunned/prone, etc. How do you use them? Do you stand the miniature on the token? Put the token on the base? Or other....

dont use a range ruler (except to determine interceptions) There are a few reference sheets about (some nice colour coded ones) that have a range chart on them, no arguments over "is it touching the longer range line" ect 3 squares is quick, 6 is short ect.

you remove the player and place the token in the square he/she is prone in! you will forget it sometimes but dont worry, you do get use to using them with practice...

never played on a 40mm gaming matt, seems a little small

Here's a 40mm gaming mat

You really don't need the range ruler if you use the passing chart located on the SSB dugout

Down here we use a 1900mm gaming Matt. But mostly we play on a 29mm mat.

Mats with 40mm squares (:P) are awesome to play on, and I have a tough time playing on standard 29mm pitches anymore. I made some 40mm range rulers a while ago, but honestly they just sit in storage most of the time. Just use the passing chart. Most interceptions are easy to eyeball, and if they're not, that's the only time you need the ruler.

I guess that comes in time, but for people not used to the 40mm pitches (or those new to Blood Bowl in general) eyeballing isn't that easy. Tracking down range rulers for 40mm pitches is turning out to be a challenge for me (seeing that meeting up with people from ThunderBowl or Rat City isn't that easy when one lives in Europe).

Hopefully some day I will find the actual measurements for a range ruler made for 40mm pitches or even better a file that I can print out (or have a printing service print out). Because unlike many other nerds and geeks I'm mathematically handicapped, so doing the math myself isn't a viable option

Thunderbowl make and sell 40mm range rulers, or at least they did. Give them a try.

We (Thunderbowl) have some and the are for sale, $15 cad I believe. I also can't overstate how much better 40mm is for BB. Not only does it make the Ogre team possible to play without tokens all those models that have crept out of 29mm range (Varag) are perfect fits on 40mm. S.

There's a smart phone app for determining interception based on the throw range chart. I'm sure it's an easy find in the Play store.

Oh come on, how hard is it to conver a ruler from 29 mm to 40? You just expand the scale by 40/29.
I mean, if you want to buy a premade one, sure. Buy a nice one and sponsor a tournament or something. But it cant be THAT hard for any selfrespecting geek/nerd/whathaveyou to figure out how to go from one scale to another.

I mean, it's not rocketscience..! It's math. :D

I think you are the same person who messaged me so... I found images for a variety of range rulers and a range chart. I've put them in a dropbox and will leave them up for anyone who wants them for a week or so. None of the images are the Old Nottingham Hag's so it shouldn't be a problem. :)

The only issue with the reference sheet was the squares on the middle ( LoS) of the GW board where slightly larger IIRc which could affect the passing range, however as I use vinyl pitches now it's not an issue. Thought I'd mention it as it was raised elsewhere.

Somewhere there is a PDF with all the passing options and interception squares marked off. Anyone else know where to find this?

I second the awesomeness of the phone app. Really handy. The PDF version might be handy to have, too.

40mm Blood Bowl is best Blood Bowl! :D

I made my own passing template using clear plastic and very simple math. Multiply the dimensions of the 29mm ruler by 1.379 (40 divided by 29). Simple. :)
