The most irritating way to go out of a tournament

Post by Mortalman »

OK this is a bit of a quest for sympathy, but hopefully it'll spark lots of other people to moan about their near misses and will provide amusement for all.

Anyway I was recently in a knock-out cup semi-final pitting my mighty Orcs against the only team to have beaten me in the league running up to the Cup: Soteck's Pyramid Builders a Lizardman team with some of the most annoying skinks (one has guard, I ask you!) ever.

Every turn was cut and thrust, with careful moves being made and every die roll beheld with trepidation. Despite being out-gunned in terms of strength we held him to 0-0 in the first half, with him receiving and being in posession until about turn 7 (when I finally got a crack at a skink).

Then I receive in the next half, and it all goes down the tubes :pissed: .
Bottom line I failed to score, despite some valiant ball-handling action by my Ogre, and only narrowly avoided my opponent sneaking a TD in himself!

We go to overtime, he receives again, but it seems luck is with me when he fails a bonehead roll meaning there's only a saurus between my blitzer and the ballcarrier! OF course I rolled double skulls to block him. I still held him to a 0-0 finish and it all came down to a straight D6 roll for the match. He won, I lost, he won the Chaos cup and 350'000 gold am I bitter?

But seriously, is that or is that not the worst way ever to go out of a tornament?

Nah its worse to lose to a team significantly lower than you cause you rolled consistant double 1s etc

Yes it could:

at the end of the tie match you both roll a D6 for winning. He rolls first - 1, you smile and roll -1, he rolls again - a 2 and you roll, off course, another 1.

Worst way:

2-1 down with 5 turns to play. Roll RIOT on the kick off table, then roll a five an game over. Can't think of a worse way of going out.

I've never played in a league that uses the D6 to decide after overtime. That's the most ridiculous rule in all of the rulebook! Like most leagues, we don't have overtime in the regular season, and in overtime we hold extra OTs until someone scores.

Until recently, our league suffered "the Curse of Count Luthor". Any team that freebooted him lost in an ignominious fashion. He failed a GFI to tie the Spike! championship and fell down while trying to dodge into an endzone in the Dungeonbowl.

That's probabely not the match where you managed to make ALL your dodge rolls I remember from My (Your) last tournament !!

You were the rightfull winner but you could have missed just one of these rolls ...
