The blitz on his first kick off paired with a lineman with kick helped him a great deal. I have a great deal of trouble defending Woodies...mostly because if you try and cover the whole field then they really only need a good block on the line and usually a successful blitz to completely open you up. Leave a zone empty and you're handing them an advantage.
I had a few bad rolls at key moments (my runners botching easy stuff as per...) so I was out of it by halftime, and started trying daft stuff I'd never even think of trying if I was still in the game. He pulled off an obscene play - one of those six rolls needed to get you a one dice block that suceeds jobs - that Woodies specialise in to stop me scoring too.
Plain and simple - a well developed Wood Elf team in the hands of a good coach, like I faced, is EXTREMELY difficult to play against, and probably better than any other race.

You wrote he puts three of your elves out of play per turn
If you make sure you stay just one square away from them, he can't move very fast and is only able to blitz one of your players. This will make the 'elves loss' just one!!
Dodge away with all elves that you won't need first thing your turn.
Then you've got your Wardancer or anyone else to - perhaps - try to break his cage. Remember to have one player in scoring position at all times!! If you manage to dodge away you can leave it at that or you can try to withle down his cage (perhaps some dodging needs to wait for after that) or wait and do that next turn, or the one after that, or the .... With some luck and skill you may even lead 1 - 0 at halftime. Make 2 - 0 in the second half and smile as he tries to run in more than one TD
Ah... this is exactly what I do. In fact you've summoned up my entire defensive strategy. But he's smart this guy. He just slowly pounds one elf at a time. Has a five to seven dwarf cage, with the rest of the team spread out to weaken my defense but just enough to have each dwarf supporting each other. Always hits the weakest spots. Takes a couple of squares at a turn. Tries to score on the seventh or eigth turn.
All credit to him he plays it absolutely perfectly and never takes any risks with the ball carrier, unless he absolutely has to to score.
Anyway it goes to show that woodies have more to fear from dwarves then vice versa. All you beardy half pint coaches need is a little patience.
Dorfs be the anti-dodgy team. Although I hate the midgets, I gotta give them there due.
Wood elves are just like all the other weak armor teams. No lasting power. Screen them, pin them, and pound them. Make them roll all those dodge rolls they like to flaunt in the faces of use merely AG 3 folks. They are gonna fail one sooner or later, then all those that didn't dodge away get punished. Funnel them to both sidelines so the dodge/pow still makes them pay with a heated crowds reception.
