Dungeonbowl game

We played a league game last night with the Dungeonbowl rules and I thought I would share it with you.

It was 11 Norse(3 blitzers, 1 Thrower and 7 linemen) versus 13 Skaven (3 GR, 2 Stormvermin, 1 Thrower and 7 linemen)

The skaven went out looking for the ball opening chests wherever possible, meanwhile the Norse seemed to be setting up a defensive perimeter and sending only a couple of players out to hunt ball and rats.

The usage of teleporters was a big laugh  as player after player vanished into the great beyond for the rest of the game. The rats especially found it too tempting and lost approx 5 players this way. the obstacles and hazards came into play too. Special note was taken around one pit which claimed the life of three players (2 SK/ 1 N).

To add some extra spice, A Bloodthirster was magically transported into the Dungeon after 6 turns each. He had one remit, to scrag the ball carrier and run off into the teleporters. The fear he caused amongst all these AV7 players was palpable (his stats are 6 8 3 10 after all :pissed:  :pissed: {from "he plays like a daemon"])

As the numbers reduced we found ourselves playing end to end(via teleport) stuff and only some unlucky dice rolls kept us scoreless, firstly a GR had to make 2 3+ dodges and then a 2+ dodge to score and win but failed and used up his re-roll on the first one only to roll a 1 on the final dice roll. lastly the Norse lineman "Valhalla" needed only to make one GFI to score..... another 1.

Valhalla picked up the ball and scored right under the nose of the Daemon who had once again backtracked via teleporter to try and steal the ball once more.

Success for the Norse and a fun 3 hours play. We have decided to play this as our first cup competition in 6 weeks time, and we will all be thinking of different tactics.

It was probably as much fun DM'ing the Daemon around the Dungeon causing mayhem as it was watching the others try and score. I recommend it for comedy value at the very least. 8)

Lately we have been playtesting Dungeonbowl rules for an upcoming tournament. In the tournament we'll be using our regular teams from the ongoing league.

We played several matches with chaos, wood elves and lizardmen. Most likely we'll try other teams also, the aforementionel teams were the ones we had models for.

Some lines from out notes...

The matches can be very short. I mean very short, like fifteen minutes real time.

Can a player perform an action during the round he teleports into a dungeon? We ruled yes, but with a -1 movement. You can blitz, but since you don't know where you are going to appear before declaring the action, this generally is not a very good option.

What happens if a player is pushed back to a wall with no possible squares to go? We ruled that nothing happens, the other solution would be to consider it as a knock-down (tried this, makes frenzy too good in dungeons).

Does the teleportation injury rule include the opponent's round also? I mean, if you teleport into a room and the next round your opponent pushes you back to the same teleport - do you get injured? We ruled no. By the way, one t-d was scored this way. A skink teleported luckily next to the ball and picked it up. A wardancer blitzed the skink and pushed him back to a teleport. The skink materialized in the elf team's endzone, scored a td and ended the game!

We'll need to make some modifications to the handicap table. Most likely we'll just make the coaches re-roll results not applicaple to dungeons.

We also added magic point rules from the original Dungeonbowl box (fixing teleporters, etc), but soon found out that they tend to shorten the matches too much. The team to first find the ball scores way too quickly. However, we wanted to retain the old inferior-superior school table, so we decided to give superior schools an additional team re-roll.
