Fan Factor in LRB6

Is it me (well I know its not because other people have mentioned it) but has Fan Factor in LRB6 becoming almost pointless.
The FAME rules seem to make Fan Factor less important and I liked the way Fan Factor worked in previous editions (even the basic version!).
What are other people's views on here.

Fan factor is arbitrary and based on previous results.
The old system gave it far too much influence on league play and development: this solves the problem, by making it a maximum of +2 fame.

I assume you mean how much should they buy?
I would either go with the 5 free for the league or start with none.

Of course a new rookie team doesn't have any fans yet. That's natural.
I sometimes use left over cash to buy one or two cheerleaders/assistant coaches but mostly I save it to buy my apothecary (wich I never start with but is always my first buy).

True when you put it like that it is kind of obvious.

and if you look at teams with expensive positionals it changes the dynamic of your starting build.
Dark Elves can start with 3 blitzers and a witch elf for instance...

Don't know why you posted this in the house rules forum, I nearly missed it.
I've got an article discussing the changes and implications of
Fan Factor and FAME on my site. take a look that may give you a more in depth answer.

Because if you change the rules to how Fan Factor is being used currently then thats a house rule.

FAME has made things much simpler in regard to Fan Factor and Winnings, which is always a good thing. It's also made FF far less weighty in terms of who develops quicker, which may well be a good thing too, putting it more in terms of results on the pitch than 'I could afford 50/60k at the start therefore I now consistently get 40k more than you per game' situations.
Plus, at the beginning of a league, when a 'fling team rolls up with FF9 and comedicly steals all your FF0 team's re-rolls with a Chef, and then wins all the kick-off roll-offs
as well, then you'll see how useful it is

The thing I miss about FF is the gate affecting the winnings. I know this has partly been covered in the FAME modifier, but I liked it when you profited if you played against a team with a large FF. I'm not sure how to bring it back, though. I suppose the stadiums have stopped giving the teams a percentage and pay them a random flat fee instead.

Problem was this created too many issues where players would refuse to play against other players because they had a low FF. Which was never an intent of the game rules.
