A total newbie - what inducements on my crippled team?

Post by E99 »

Hi, all! I have joined (actually created) the first tabletop league in my country. Funny as it may sound, almost all of the other players in the league has online (fumble or steam game) experience. I have bought the first and then the second pc game but have played about 5 matches total (I just wanted to play tabletop since I've heard of the game). Despite never actually played the game I've read the rules (the Living Rulebook) and fell in love with the game but never found anybody to play it against (tabletop again).

So with the new release I thought that now is the time to lure players to the tabletop version. Surprisingly, I found (with the massive help of my local gaming shop) some players even here in Bulgaria. They have been playing online for quite some time but never tabletop. As nobody wanted to administer a league, I decided to do it and here we are. I have to learn how to administer the league in the process of learning the game as well. I've played one friendly game and jump right to my first league game.

So, my question is this - after the first match (0-1 loss to Lizardmen) my orc team is without a Black Orc (-1 MA injury) and a Blitzer (dead) for the next match. I am playing Skaven next. My team is at 850k TV and the other team is at 1090 TV. So what should I do - hire two journeyman + a reroll (we do not use wizard in our league after a players' vote)?

Firstly sack the Black Orc. In the long run there's no reason to keep him. In this case JM are not waiting for players to come back, so..........there's not much use in them holding the place.

You haven't said how much cash you have. However if you can replace the blitzer, most certainly do that. It's either very unfortunate or a real worry that you lost 2 AV9 positionals in your first game. That isn't common.

Thanks, harvestmouse! I've got 70k in the treasury. Well, I had 3 armor breaks throughout the game - 2 stuns and 1 injury. The blitzer died on the 6-th or 7-th turn of the second half by a foul :)

Ok, then the 2 JMs for sure. This leaves you 140k of inducements. Orcs have access to some pretty nice cheap Star Players.......providing you have access to the models.

Chainsaws are great, but risky against skaven. if they score quick - he's gone.

Cards are fun, but risky.

You could induce a mercenary troll. They're pretty good value and it'd give you some mighty blow, as well as a 12th man.

Alternatively, take 1 journeyman, induce a troll and get a bloodweiser keg.

I'd also keep the black orc. Sure, he's slow, but he can still punch things. just put him on the line of scrimmage until he's dead, or until you can afford a new one. replace him asap, but the blitzer is more important.

Thanks, Harvestmouse and Nazgob!

I have access to star player models (also I'm waiting for a chainsaw ork and Varag).

Was thinking about the troll actually. The other players want to allow Grak and Crumbleberry but I don't like the idea of playing with them (even with loner).

Would a Wandering Apothecary make any sense?

Crap and dingleberry are very VERY broken. I would not allow them until they are fixed (or ever) You are organising this, put your foot down. let them try them in a pick up game then agree with them that they can sub for brick n grotty.

Keep the BLORC but do not skill him and replace him as soon as you can. You have had a bad start and so will be playing recovery games for a while. For me getting back to a starting roster is more important than getting a troll right now. so blitzer next then Blorc Then troll then gobbo.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

No to the wandering apo, you have av9.

Yes to the blitzer being more important.

I do disagree about keeping the BOB. if he gets knocked over he can't move. He has no extra av than a JM. Costs more in TV and he could easily steal a cas or mvp. I'd sack and replace after the blitzer.

Thanks everyone! So I'll take the 2 JM and maybe get a troll mercenary as well (2x50k + 140k)? Or get a star player instead of the troll (Ugroth Bolgrot probably)? The other option I like is 1 JM, a troll and a bloodweiser keg (babe) as Nazgob suggested.
