NAFC 2017 - How to get there?
For someone coming from Europe who isn't familiar with UK geography and airports, what would people suggest as the best way to get to Nottingham for the NAFC? I could drive, but I was planning to bring my wife and kids so they could visit the UK that weekend. What's the nearest airport? How would I travel from there to Nottingham and the venue? Is Warhammer World convenient to visit while I'm in town for the event?
Any advice you could give me would be very welcome. I'll be travelling from Switzerland.

There's some airports scattered around Nottingham.
I went to Birmingham and then by car to Nottingham, but bus/train are also available options.
I know that some people travel to Manchester and go from there by car/bus/train

East Midlands (EMA) is the closest airport to Nottingham, followed by Birmingham (BHX) and Manchester (MAN). London Luton (LTN) and London Stansted (STN) are probably also worth considering.
You can take a taxi from East Midlands to the venue for about £30 I think, alternatively public buses are also available. The other airports will all require a train journey to Nottingham.
It will come down to where and when flights are available I guess. You'll probably find flights to the London airports are more common and cheaper but you'll have more travel at the other end.

Rental car from BHX works very well

Thanks for the tips. What's the best site to use to price/book train travel from London Luton to Nottingham?Vanguard wrote:East Midlands (EMA) is the closest airport to Nottingham, followed by Birmingham (BHX) and Manchester (MAN). You get used to that faster than you think.Milo wrote:If you're comfortable driving on the wrong side of the road! =)
- The biggest problem was all the traffic circles. Apparently British Law requires one every 100 feet on every road that isn't a highway. And they all go clockwise, which ... just ... hurts!
- Also, when I was on the highways, I kept forgetting that exits are on the left and I'm actually supposed to pass on the right.
- For the love of God and all that is holy, do what it takes to get an Automatic transmission.

It's actually not that difficult if you have UK-car. Just keep in mind that the centerline must be always on the divers side. The round abouts are not that difficult either since they are mostly guided by road structure elements and arrows. Highway exits are also easy, just follow the signs. The most critical are right turn, there your brain really needs to pay attention, that take the left lane(s)...
and yes, American need to get an automatic car

Actually after driving in england and scotland for several years i must admit that the british roundabouts are way more logical than the european ones.
and somehow the british drivers seemed to be more relaxed than the german ones...
