Team England 2017 - Captaincy Election
Hi gang.
We have begun the process by which we will select a captain to lead Team England at the Eurobowl in 2017. Interested parties should make themselves known on the Team England forum, teamengland.freeforums.org, by Jan. 2. If we have two or more candidates, we’ll then hold a Q&A and a vote. Please refer to the selection document for captaincy eligibility details, and see this post for the full captaincy election timeline.
If you’re English, please join the forum and get involved. Even if you’re not going to attend Portugal ’17, Team England represents our scene, and the more of us that are involved in the process, the better. Forum signups will close when the vote opens, so please make sure you join us by then if you’re not a member already. If you're not English, feel free to stop by anyway.
Cheers!
Phil / goo.

Very excited about the Eurobowl process as ever. The event keeps going from strength to strength, and I can't wait to see what Portugal have in store for us!

I have lived in England for 15 years, have played at the International tournaments including Eurobowl.
Can I stand for England Captaincy?

Hi Loki,
Forgive me if I get this wrong, but you've previously played at Eurobowl for Scotland as a Scot (rather than a freebooter), correct?
We have had a philosophical discussion on the forum about when a coach can change nationality on residency grounds, the thread was even called 'Should the England Captain be English?'. There was no firm conclusion to that other than 'it'll all be alright, no one will take the mickey', and I don't think the EB committiee that is going to be put in place to rule on stuff like this is sorted and underway yet. The 'unwritten rules' (so far as I remember) touch on this stuff, but are yet to be ratified.
So I guess I'm saying that if you're asking a hypothetical question, I don't know that there is a written down answer either way. If you're 'coming out' as English and would genuinely like to stand, I guess we'll talk further. The selection document speaks both about playing in a EB being enough (and Fraser stood one year having played for the Pirates, so there is precedent that applies if you were a freebooter previously) and later about the captain being a previous member of TE, so it's not a terrific help here!
...but you're Scottish, right?

Re: Team England 2017 - Captaincy Election
Ideally I was hoping to continue playing for Scotland but hold the England Captaincy, definitely says you can be a non-playing captain. I was hoping to be non-playing English Captain playing games for Scotland. It's more of a management role I'm looking to move into, we all know how well an English team can do when managed by a Scot.
I was inspired by the Australian Netballer England have decided to field BBC - Netball
I believe Mr Podfrey has me listed as Scottish on the Team England Forum, I'm in no rush to change that

Re: Team England 2017 - Captaincy Election
Hi all. I was lucky enough to win the election 18 votes to 12. Thanks to Lycos for standing, and commiserations on the result. Thanks too to everyone who voted for me. And lastly thanks to Purplegoo, Joemanji and Gaixo for mediating the election.
