Remembrance Day

Post by lunchmoney »

The last day of the WC is 8 November; this is Remembrance Sunday in the UK. However this is not observed on the same day in Italy. They observe the Armistice on the first Sunday in November, which this year is 1 November.

I have several friends in the forces (and several more no longer serving as well as family who served in times of need) and will be observing the 2 minute silence.

If your UK opponent (or anyone, for that matter) requests a 2 minute silence at 11:00 please respect that.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

That is a good question.
I will use local time, unless general consensus from others is to use UK time (Italy is GMT +1)

Checked a few places and the general convention for ex-pats is to use local time.

We did the same thing at Eurobowl last year while playing the Netherland team and Dave and the rest of the team were very understanding and respectful about it.

I am sure you'll recieve the same treatment in Lucca regardless of opponents, you just might need to explain it to them before kick off is all.

I won't mind if my opponent takes a 2 minute moment of silence as long as they avoid setting catholics on fire on Nov 5 ;)

Why on earth would you want to burn anyone from the church that brought us the Spanish Inquisition?

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

What has that got to do with it? It is about remembering all those have fallen, regardless of which side they fought for, regardless of nationality, regardless of everything.
And for your reference Germany holds their day of remembrance in August, Austria observes remembrance on the same day as the UK as does Turkey.
