NAFC 2014 Rules

Post by Joemanji »

Hello all,

Nearly ready to announce full details of this year's NAFC. But as a taster, a heads up on the rules!

We will be using new rules this year.

Teams will be TV110, with 3 skills allowed before game one, and 3 skills (one of which may be a double) before game four. All skills must be chosen before the tournament and printed on your roster.

Cheers
Joe

I prefer tourneys to keep their ruleset over the years (it adds character), so this is not a plus for me. :-?
And this ruleset is already used for a little too meny tourneys for my taste. :(

Anyway not a big issue.

I'm delighted the rules have been changed. Whilst I see the point regarding consistency, remember it's not so long ago the tournament was at TV 100, so tweaks are not new. This (significant) improvement should lead to more races being competitive and better, more fun BB. Huzzah!

What I see is format that is becoming just too common.
I hope we are not taking a slippery slope.
Standardization of the rules is the death of this game, but I see top players demand more predictability (which I dislike).

I remember in 2011 almost 2/3 of tourneys had the same ruleset.
I was so nauseated I almost stopped playing.

Anyway playability and variety are different things.
Undead, Wood and Lizards gain very much with this formula.
A tourney like this 2 years ago in Italy had more than 1/3 of undead teams.
I hope something like this doesn't happern at the NAFC.
We'll see.

Sadly, I don't know how common certain rulesets are in Italy, so I can't answer you there. However, I can only think of one exactly like this in the UK, so it's hardly common. If anything, it's far, far more common now for rulesets to be whacky and full of complex rules for different tiers (less predictable) than straightforward like these, we have all sorts of craziness (maybe you should move over! ;)). It's entirely reasonable in my view for a flagship event like this to have straightforward rules for more casual gamers, but move towards something a little more interesting than things were.

As you say, we'll wait and see. I can't think of anything duller / more predictable than 1.05 with a skill a game (as it was last year), it takes all sorts. ;)

I'm liking this.....

I asked about a double skill for stunty teams a few ( or maybe last) year(s) ago.

Whilst I can see your point Rolex, my good friend, the undead and Woodelves are always at the top anyway, I don't think this widens the gap much if any..and now hopefully we will see more stunty teams as block trees, sure hands Ogres and of course HMP bombers ( or even block fanatics) will be available.

All rule sets will favour one type of team, balance is hard to achieve....

I like the fact the NAF. Had moved it's stance on this, if it doesn't deliver the predicted benefits I assume it can be changed again.

I for one am in favour of this move.

Halfling power!

I entirely approve. This brings the tournament in line with the majority of others, and allows the much feared strip ball halfling of doom.

Goblins were already one of my three finalist teams to bring to the 2014 NAF (if I get to go - fingers crossed!) and this ruleset is pretty nice for them...

Can they 'roster' Bribes?

Sorry for the delay SunDevil - assuming it's same as last year, all inducements are allowed so rostered bribes are good to go, as are stars once you have 11 players.

No wizards, cards or mercenaries. Otherwise inducements are fine.

Who is the bastard that hacked Phills account? He is unable to appreciate anything changing so this is clearly not Phill writing... :orc:

My hope is that they have changed to a position that I like, and then they can never be changed again. :D
