Hi, In my most recent league game my opponent hired a wizard (nothing new there he often does) but on this occasion I didn't think about it early doors and caged up near the LoS as that is where the ball had scattered to. Normally he lightning bolts a lone ball carrier so it's perhaps not such a dumb move as it sounds. However the point of this post is the effectiveness of the fireball that ensued. He knocked down the ball carrier and all four of the caging players, went through the armour of 4 out of 5 and killed one of those. So I was wondering has anyone else been on the end of (or had more success with) a more lethal wizard?

One of my mates was playing Woodies vs Skaven in our league. The skaven player caged the ball just to buy some time. This ended being the wrong move as the next turn the woodies unleashed the fireball knocking over all 5 men, killing one stormverimn and KO'ing another 2 line rats. To say the wardancer walked in and walked out with the ball understates how easy the score was. That was a very good use of a wizard.

Gee... Those are indeed a couple of effectively nasty fireballs!!! What do you guys feed those wizards with? I suppose some races are more prone to suffer fireball effects (as the mentioned skaven, or even elfs). By the way, team where you playing with Neil?

I'm jealous of those wizards. The last time I used a fireball I didn't knock one of the five orcs down. Since then I stick with the lightning.

One thing I often do is offset one or two of my cage corners by 1 space, like this for example:
x - - x - x - x - x
or
- x - - x - - x - - x - - x -
This still will require a blitzer to dodge into two tackle zones to get into the cage, which is still pretty risky for most attackers. In addition to making it impossible to target the entire cage with a fireball, it has other advantages positionally, occupying more space on the pitch, and sometimes making it harder for other assists to negate tackle zones. It also may be less risky if you have some defenders that are too slow to quite make it to where you want to create your cage...

was playing v slann who had a wiz and a saw. Second turn I caged up tight to avoid the leap in blitz and that wizard got the carrier, my +ag MB Strip ball dancer, and my +AG lino. neither of whom came back for the entire game. Second half he brought the saw on which took out 4 players in 4 turns. Not my finest moment.

Thanks guys, I suppose I had it coming anyway; 2 games ago my opponent completely forgot he had a wizard so didn't use it and in the previous encounter he remembered but promptly rolled a one with his lightning bolt
