Dwarf team (from Fantasy troops)

Post by Piousman »

I have a bunch of the 5th edition dwarfs (the ham fisted ones). So I thought I would try to make a team of them.

Since I am a firm believer that BB miniatures should look much more football like, and inspired by the Cyanide dwarfs, I came up with the following test model.

Comments welcome. Is it worth continuing with more of them?

Yes; I'd say so. What you've done so far looks good and the green stuff job looks very clean and nice.

The green stuff looks a little plain maybe; lacks some details?

I don't know how though :-(

Another easy thing, could be to make a facemask out of thin wire.

I like it, most converted warhammer dwarfs still look too warhammerish, you have hidden it rather well here though

Thank you guys for the kind words. On being too plain, I am hoping that the paint job will take some of that away (when doing things like badges, stripes, etc on the helmet and shoulderpads).

And thanks to your inspiration, I have started on the next one (hopefully the picture will come out better).

Here is the next one. Still need to beef-up his shoulderpads (similar to the first one):

Any sugestions on how to change him (what makes him look not sporty)...

If the helmet too tall ? Does it need sides more clearly defined?

Maybe remove the "rim" of the helmet?

I think he'd look a lot more sporty with a metal band on his helmet. Alternatively, a stripe could (and should!) be painted on later.

I will try a vertical band.

Also the "rim" is actually just in the front of the helmet. I will futz with extending the helmet town over the neck and ears, see if that changes the look.

I shaved his helmet some and added a vertical band. Also build his shoulderpads.

I feel that it made his helmet significantly more sportish. Am also thinking of making his shoulder pads even bigger.

Started on the third dwarf, a simple blocker (helmet and shoulderpads done).

The one thing that seems to have no consistency is the helmet. They all look different. Still, this helmet almost gives me a vibe of the old skool football helmets.

Playing with Dwarves... tsk, tsk.... :P

Model-wise, and in all sincerity, I like the first and third models due to their footballish simplicity... i.e., they really look like players in football gear!

I, too, think a good paint job will properly enhance the pads/helmets.... So, for my two coins, keep it football simple... it really looks good!
