Will the winners of the World Cup host in 2011?
I heard that originally, the winning country would host the World Cup in 2011.
Is this true, or will it be locked into the same location year in, year out?

I would think that such a thing should be clear up front really - because if for no other reason that it sets a 'seriousness' level for the tournament. If people are playing for the right to host it in 2011 (and the responsibility - lots of work!) then it takes the World Cup to a new level of competition.

There of course is a problem here. If the winning country should host it, it will be most likely it will be in the UK again, as they will be able to get most temas together.
You could also run this as the Fifa does now with soccer tournaments. Organise it in a different continent every 4 years.

Originally I'd envisioned it'd be more like the Olympics - countries would "present a case" then the decision would be based on that. This way although the winner is rewarded and acknowledged it means all countries have a chance to host it irrespective of any differences in skill between nations.

Babs, somewhere Woody has posted that the NAF will begin a couple of years ahead of time to work with interested groups or leagues in other countries to host the World Cup... I'm not sure if "bid" is the right word, but certainly ask groups within the community to see if a country would be willing to host the World Cup. Closer in spirit to the Olympics, I think, is the better analogy and I agree that this is the best all-round way....
In no way are we locked in to Nottingham and as others have pointed out, there are better locations for travel and venue.... this was strictly done so to get things started and GW was willing to help...
Personally, I see the WC as another major and would like to see groups in Spain, France, Italy, Holland (and other non-major hosting countries) emerge to develop plans for hosting a WC...

OK - so it's not a default thing - but countries can 'bid' for it and have a case for it being in their country.
And I think I already have one case for it being in AUS in 2011! I think I could present a good case.
Interesting idea.

Mate - we are over in the UK for the next 7 months (up to and including the World Cup!) so you won't have to come over here for it!Longshot wrote:Lets Australia win it then, want to see Ian and Renée again
That said I'd love you see you all over in Australia (Sydney of course!) for 2011 and some of you at least may be able to sell it as part of a bigger holiday.
I would love to see a major BB tournament in Vegas too I don't think I'd have to try too hard to sell that the to the missus (she'd want to come along of course!).
However I think practically the WC may need to be near the biggest concentration of coaches. An Australian or American tournament will almost certainly never match the numbers we could get anywhere in Western Europe - and if you look at the NAF stats something like 80% of games are played in Europe.
That said I don't think this should be decided until 2009 (and not later). Where ever it is going to be 2 years notice would be preferable for those who want to travel long distances.
