phpBB is an active open source project, so constantly evolving. So the simplest thing would probably to update to the latest version of phpBB - and that is something Jonny would need to do (someone with FTP access to the site as well as phpBB admin access).
That should fix a high proportion of the spam bots too (its got rid of almost all of them on ECBBL's forums).
I'd also probably think about archiving off all the posts more than say 3 years old. That would ensure the database didn't just keep growing all the time.

yes, very rarely do I not have problems with loading on this site. Sometimes i cant connect at all, other times I can. Seems to have no pattern.
Just now, going through this thread I logged into the site fast, no problem, read through the posts, got to page four then to get to page 5 it spun in a holding pattern for a few minutes.
Last night I was going to try to sign into this site to see if I could find if others had this problem, & if not to post a question about it, but appropriately enough, it spun for 1/2 an hour, tried a couple more times & gave up, unable to enter the site. I had no problems getting into the Warhammer Forum however. In fact, I'm no internet expert, but I have a great connection speed and almost no connection problems (Thank the gods, I have cable internet, not dsl)
But this site I almost always have problems with.

My virtual server hosted at 1and1 is having issues with mysqld. It works its way up to 100% and then hogs all CPU until I restart it.
No idea why this is happening and why it has started only recently but I'll try and find out. However, I don't get much time to do anything on it these days and it only does my email other than TBB which always seems to download ok so I hardly notice it.
Cheers
John

I've narrowed the problem down to my bloodbowl.co.uk site which uses a mysql db for it's back end.
I've taken that site out of action for the moment and will have to investigate further at some other point. Suffice to say things look normal now and the mysql process is not consuming masses of CPU resource as soon as I start it up.
