Fast bot deleting please

Post by Takoda »

Would be nice if it was possible to block, delete or remove the bots posts. The bot should never ever be allowed to make more than one round of spamming, even when it gets through the activation registering proces.

Perhaps make some of the long time users into moderators aswell. I am thinking of the people that check out this forum more than once per day. Since I am still new here I honestly don't know who that might be, but I am sure that somebody will fit the description.

it usually happens extemely quickly but remember we're in holiday season so hence the probable reason for the delay

The most effective anti-bot device is adding the anti-spam hack where new users are asked to identify the year in which the Battle of Hastings took place (and directed to wikipedia if they don't know the answer). I used to have repeated bot sign-ups but haven't had a single once since I input that hack.

I'd be happy to send to anyone who has root access. Of course, all those bots are quite probably just a way to amplify the number of users :P

MLA - you can offer it to JonnyP - he's the only one that has access to the database etc. Trouble is, I've no idea how active he is - he was talking about upgrading the php before Xmas, and that still hasn't happened.

As for having active mods, we do already - it was just unfortunate this just happened to be probably the one time in 6 months where none of us had ben online recently to check the forum.

I just upgraded another phpBB forum to 3.02 and it seems to have massively reduced bot registration requests.

I would quite happily retake a mod chair - I only lost it through inactivity after all.

Personally if Bots result in threads like this, I'm OK with them.

If JohnnyP responds to my contact I'll send it to him. It entirely eliminated all bots from my forum and we were getting loads. Its also the easiest hack I've ever added and took just a couple mins max.

Another one got through, so would be awesome if we could get that anti bot upgrade MadLordAnarchy talked about.

The problem is that the guy who owns this place is never around and no-one ever hears from him. No-one else has access to the files so no-one else can add stuff.

Another one got through. Perhaps try to look at the signed up account before giving them access? The latest one is it clear that it is a bot.

This user is still spamming away. Would be really nice to have it deleted and blocked.

JohnnyP said he'd get round to the phpBB3 upgrade at some point so there wasn't a need for an interim fix.
