'NAF Live' Tournaments during Covid-19

Post by Purplegoo »

Dear members,

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, we are noting increasing numbers of NAF tournaments are being postponed or cancelled. Health and well-being comes first, and we support Tournament Organisers talking whatever steps they deem necessary with their events to keep people safe.

As we lose these tournaments from the calendar, members are asking us if we can fill the gap with increased Online NAF activity; either via TOs simply holding their events online, or via the NAF providing more tournaments for you to participate in. The former presents us with non-trivial administration, technical and practical issues, so starting on March 28, we will be running a number of ‘NAF Live’ tournaments on FUMBBL for an indefinite amount of time.

We will be reviewing the format and frequency of these tournaments as we go along, but to begin with, these tournaments aim to recreate the real life tournament feeling as best we can, and will run in parallel with existing Online NAF events (currently the Tilean Team Cup). Further details:

– Tournaments will comprise 3-6 games of Swiss over 1-2 weekend days (Sat / Sun), taking place on alternate weekends beginning Mar. 28.

– Participants will be expected to play up to 3 games in a day according to a set, timed schedule. e.g. Game 1: 10:00, Game 2: 12:30, etc.

– Tournaments will take place in European, Americas and Oceanic time zones. All NAF members may participate, as per usual for Online NAF.

– Rulesets will be taken from postponed tournaments with clear and well written rulespacks, accessible via the NAF site. These rulespacks should be easily implemented on FUMBBL, so tournaments with heavy or unique, integral house-rules should not apply.

Further details of our first tournament will be revealed shortly (watch this space!), but for now, if you would like to see your tournament recreated online, please contact me (Purplegoo) via the NAF website. You should also contact me if you have a good working knowledge of FUMBBL and would like to assist in administering these temporary events for a short time, as with more tournaments comes more work for our team. Please assist if you can!

Many thanks, and stay safe.

Phil / Purplegoo.

Dungeonbowl Dust-Up

I'm delighted to announce that our first NAF Live tournament, The Dungeonbowl Dust-Up is ready to take your application!

The first NAF Major of the year, the Dungeonbowl, was due to be held in Dusseldorf this weekend. Covid-19 intervened, so we are going to bring you the next best thing: six games of online NAF Blood Bowl that you can play from the comfort of your own home!

The Dungeonbowl Dust-Up will take place over the weekend of 28/29 March, and you will be able to participate in any of three timezones. Read all of the details on how to apply on the European, Americas and Oceanic tournament pages; selecting the schedule that best suits you. Applications close on 27 March at 22:00 UTC, and we will be drawing the tournament shortly thereafter for a prompt start on the morning of the 28th.

This is a particularly good time to get involved with FUMBBL, so even if you haven't joined us for an Online NAF tournament before, please take a look. Christer has been good enough to provide us with a NAF Live channel on the main FUMBBL Discord, so you can even enjoy a virtual weissbier with your opposition between rounds!

I've included some FAQ around the NAF Live concept below, but if this or the FUMBBL group page doesn't answer any questions you have, please post on the FUMBBL forum or ask in that NAF Live Discord channel.

Thanks, and we'll see you next weekend!

FAQ:

Q: Can I run my own postponed / cancelled tournament on FUMBBL?

A: Sure! Check the FUMBBL front page for details on how to use the site. However, and this is important: The NAF website will only take results from official Online NAF / NAF Live tournaments.

Q: Will these games count towards my usual NAF ranking?

A: All NAF Online and NAF Live games count to the Online variant rankings.

Q: I'm European. Can I play in the Americas timezone because that suits me better?

A: Sure. Play wherever is best for you.

Q: Can you do something on BB2?

A: We hope that we will be able to one day. Watch this space.

Q: I can't make next weekend. When will there be another NAF Live tournament?

A: We currently aim to run a tournament every other weekend. We'll review the format, cadence and success of the tournaments as we go along. I doubt the Dungeonbowl will be the last major that we look to recreate online in these difficult times.

After the success of the first NAF Live tournament -The Dungeonbowl Dust-Up - I'm excited to announce that the second event - The Eucalyptus Bowl Brouhaha - is ready to take your application!

The gem in the crown of Australian Blood Bowl calendar, the Eucalyptus Bowl (Or simply Eucbowl), was due to be held in Sydney this weekend. COVID-19 intervened, so we are going to bring you the next best thing: six games of online NAF Blood Bowl that you can play from the comfort of your own home!

The Eucalyptus Bowl will take place over the weekend of 18th/19th April, and you will be able to participate in any of three timezones. Read all of the details on how to apply on the European, Americas and Oceanic tournament pages; selecting the schedule that best suits you. Applications close on 18 April at 10:00 AEST (Oceanic UTC +10), 11:00 CEST (Europe UTC+2)  and 09:00 PDT (Americas UTC -7) - and we will be drawing the tournaments shortly thereafter.

This is a particularly good time to get involved with FUMBBL, so even if you haven’t joined us for an Online NAF tournament before, please take a look. Christer has been good enough to provide us with a NAF Live channel on the main FUMBBL Discord, so you can even enjoy a virtual Fosters with your opposition between rounds!

If you have any questions that the FUMBBL group page doesn’t answer, please post on the FUMBBL forum or ask in that NAF Live Discord channel.
Thanks, and we’ll see you next weekend!

Dan / Foad.
