New Aberdeen "League" (sort of) - players welcome

Welcome to the ABC League!
(Aberdeen BloodBowl League-sort-of)

This is a group to facilitate BloodBowl meets in and around Aberdeen. No intention for this to be a formal league, but instead to have a series of standalone events that allow progression. Members will be able to run their own events and report the results for progression. Feel free to add anybody you think will be interested to the facebook group!

The idea here is to have a pool of interested people in and around Aberdeen to meet up with and play in standalone tournaments which allow progress every match. This is a way to have the fun of progression without the strictness of league. I hope to have fixed 1 day formats (using CRP rules) so that as long as you get the appropriate number of members involved, then everybody can run their own events as and when people are available.

If you're interested please sign up on the Facebook page here: www.aberdeenbloodbowl.co.uk

Cheers,
-Mike

We've had 2 new members who have joined in the past month just from seeing this notice - so if you're in the Aberdeen area and fancy getting back in to Blood Bowl, we'd love to have you and can help with learning / getting back into the game. Joining us on the facebook group is a good start: https://www.facebook.com/groups/434730483369980/

We look forward to seeing you!

The "Aberdeen BloodBowl Community League-sort-of..." has been running since last Mar (2015) when it had 3 members. By the end of the year that was up to 6, and now (Mar 2016) we are up to 13. However, due to the sorts of jobs in Aberdeen (offshore rotation / business travel) as well as life in general we don't expect people to be able to make a regular once-a-week type commitment. So instead what we have been doing is to run a mixture of 1 or 2 day events (like a mini-tournament) at a weekend at somebody's house, or a distributed event one game a week for a fixed number of weeks, run on a weeknight at a pub in town. People only commit on an event by event basis, and so we've never had a single match missed / forfeited. Some people can't do weekends, some people can't do weeknights but everybody has been getting some play :D

This does mean that there is absolutely no intention of having teams play the same number of matches, and so we currently don't hold any sort of playoffs. We've also introduced exhibition matches - on a challenge basis which count to team progression - but each coach can only have 1 in-between each league event. This is essentially a catch up mechanism for coaches that couldn't make recent events to help them keep their teams ticking over. Seasons are after an arbitrary period of time (currently 6 months) and there is typically a round up to sing the praises of the most/least of "x" for both coaches and their players, with the latter being nominated to the hall of fame. Basically a pub catch up and a chat about whether we want to change anything about the league for the future. Most of our players haven't played in a league beforehand, so it works for us and is (we think) a pragmatic solution to a low coach population and potential dropouts. It might lack some of the ultimate satisfaction of "winning the league", but it mitigates the misery of seeing something you're invested in simply fall by the wayside... Cheers!

Love the flexibility of our set-up, there's no way we could run a conventional league with work types/schedules up here and the "event" type format is working well in generating some good match ups.

I think we're currently sitting with (main teams):

Chaos Dwarves
Dark Elves
Humans x 2
Underworld
Orcs
Wood Elves
Lizardmen x 2
Skaven x 2

And we've had:

Slann
Norse
Vampires
Dwarves

We've got a good mix of seasoned vets, people returning to the game and new players as well.

Plenty of good banter too :D

The league continues into its 2nd year and is fast gathering pace with events that are flexible enough to meet even the most dubious of lifestyles!

If you're in the Aberdeen area and want to check it out come visit one of our league nights at the 6 Degrees North bar on Littlejohn St.
