What about store credit?
Buy XYZ and get $20 SC for your next buy

I'll see what I can do. Store credit isn't automated either and folks get very confused it seems when they have to order through an email.

I dont know why, but ever since they updated to the new VASSAL 3.1 barely anything works in the ElfBall tool that Grumpygrizzly and I created

It would be a hell of a lot of work to fix everything and by that time Id say ceph would have done the java game

However... it still works 100% properly using any of the 3.0.x VASSAL, so I advise using it to play ElfBall with. I have had many an enjoyable game using it despite not being able to win a game yet, though that may have a lot to do with sillysod being rather good... :)

I finally managed to win my first game too, though it was in a dungeon instead of the regular pitch and it required a number of extremely lucky breaks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who consistently looses at games that I like to play.

Played my first game today (against myself!). Plays very differently to BB, which is nice - bit more like chess!

Thanks!

It really is a different game.

Did you play with the standard rules or with any of the optional rules?

No conditionals, and simpler face off. Playing a competitive game v Spiky on Monday, so will practise a bit before then.

I'll be honest ... I still play with both those rules when I play. I was going to move those from optional to the standard rules with a new rulebook and had a lot of pushback from folks who currently play the game. So they stayed in the optional area ... but the Star value change while making certain things impossible to do (ie needing more successes than can be rolled (whereas this is never possible with the standard rules)) ... I do like the speed it gives the dice resolution.

Although ... there is a good feeling when you keep rolling Stars into more Stars with the standard rules on something like the roll to injury an opponent. :D

Well, I placed my order for Elfball and the cut-outs and pre-ordered the cards. So now I'll get to work understanding the rules. Then I'm sure that teams, basing materials etc. will follow. 8)

You won't regret it!

Having played a couple of games, what you need to do is:

Read the rules (duh!)- they're short but cover everything- but please do follow the author's advice at the end of the booklet and use the suggested rules modifications for the first few games- I still use them and can't see any great reason to change.

Even if you don't think you've fully 'got' the rules, give it a go, but try to remember the following:

a) it shares a theme with BB (along with it's author) but there the similarity ends. Forget everything you know about BB, Elfball is a different game

b) you are not limited to one action per turn- a player can do loads of things in one action, thjough most cost a jog (movement) point

c) the unified die mechanic, once you've got your head around it, makes the game really simple. The sheets included are just what you need, and the rules are written very clearly so there are no (IME) ambiguities.

d) make sure you know what counts as a flop on an action- remember you cannot use anything to change a flopped roll!

e) The closest mechanic EB shares with BB is possibly the Shift in Momentum (SiM), which when something goes wrong, your turn ends but in EB your opponent also gets your momentum points, giving him an advantage.

Hope that helps- I was apprehensive about trying the game before I fully understood every rule but I gave it a go and was very glad I did. we used the cardboard teams in the main box (Desert Dogs and Valkyries) though like you I have the extra teams on cardstock , though I have now ordered metal versions of the Dogs and Valks...

I just wish I had more time to play but work and my little son take up almost all my time...

Hi, Tim and Master Wang in particular - I'm just working my way through the client. Vassal v3.0 and the mod are working fine.

Would like to play an online game sometime - let me know!

I downloaded the rules last night and had a good read through - some of the wording in the rules is a little confusing, but after trying a few things out (with standard D6's), they play a lot better than they read - if that makes any sense! (on a side note, there are quite a few spelling/grammar mistakes too, but can be easily sorted)

Anyway, I intend to buy this game - I can see the potential for deep strategy, which always floats my boat!

Can anyone give me a little bit of insight as to what the Elfball Cards add to the game? Is it more than just a timing element?

I played my first game using the 2nd edition rules with the cards last night. The cards have things such as +1 momentum, +1 grit, stand up a down or dazed player for free at the end of your turn (etc.) or no special event this turn. They add an random tactical element to the game as well as being a timer. I lost the game because at a crucial moment my opponent gained +1 grit and that extra square allowed him to achieve something that he wouldn't otherwise have been able to do. They were really good fun and if you're going to play Elfball you should definately use the cards.
