Whats the deal with GW taking back BB from Fanatic

Post by vorner23 »

I was wondering.... (and despite the pain, a thought struck me.)

I heard, on GW site I think that BB was being brought back to the store. Perhaps I dreamed the whole thing...or did I?

Anyway, as interesting as this sounds has anyone actually heard what this means? Will we be getting a whole new range of teams? Will they be recasting the whole old stock? Or just specific elements of it?

I've seen the new Ogres and.... am undecided on the whole look. Not sure what sort of scale they are. My main complaint with (2nd edition, I think) ogres was that they were too small.

Anyway, add to this thread any views or news you've found out about the return to GW of its prodigal son.

I know GW plan to rerelease BB with the LRB updates, in the next few months.

Others on here would probably know a lot more about future minis and GW-Fanatic relations.

Here in Germany suddenly you can get the 3.ed Starplayer in shops again. And blister packs of teams also... something is going on.

The new ogres, as i saw them at golden demon Day here, are quite large :)

my impression of the situation is that "fanatic" doesn't really exist anymore... they're now "specialist games" and instead of having a mission statement that reads, more or less, "release new stuff to niche gamers via mail order" they're charged with "steering old games back into retail situations, and why not toss in some new releases while you're there"

or something like that...

Fanatic (or whoever) are trying to make their stuff available in stores again, depending on where you are.
Not sure what sort of scale they are.
They are more like the current range in size, not as small as the older ones.

So does anyone have any idea what kind of timeframe we are talking about?

I find the most prohibatory thing to playing BB is (somewhat perversly) GW intself! I don't mind tracking down old minatures through ebay and the like but it takes a long time to get exactly what you want... at the right price. Anyone who has spent some time on ebay may well see some minis going at prices well over their mail order equivalent.

Yes it is rewarding when you pick up that mini you've been after for a long time. But trying to make a team that way, really can take some time.

Oh lastly... it makes me think I might as well ask if anyone knows of a good site that does old minis for BB. The archives at GW are useless. I found The lead alchemist (or something) but the minis there are exorbitantly overpriced. Most of them anyway. (£20 for a 2nd ed ogre? No thanks!) Plus a site that has pictures of the models or at a minimum decent site navigation so you can find what you want!

Cheers all. And keep posting your nuggets of info on the BB return to GW.... no doubt accompanied by a massive price hike???? Me thinks. ;)

Well, if you want to play Elf Ball (another sports game) using 28mm figs same size as Blood bowl then check out Phils Phigs (or Phigs Miniatures). They are reasonably priced and worth having IMO - and yes I know they are not 2E figures.... but if you can't track down the ones you want.....

The web-site is:-

http://www.phigsminiatures.com/

I think that Lucien bumps into him from time to time........

HUH???

from the Phigs website:
All orders should be processed within 48 hours of receipt of payment and are shipped by USPS Priority Mail to customers in the United States (usually 2-3 days), and by USPS International Priority Mail to international customers (typically 7-9 days).

All Phigs Miniatures are sold unpainted and include a round, 1-inch plastic slotted base.

Shipping and Handling

All customers ordering Phigs Miniatures will be charged a $5.00 shipping and handling fee at checkout. This fee is now the same for both domestic and international orders.
There are two references in this to international shipping. Phil DEFINITELY ships to international customers.

Ya must have missed the large fine print. :D

I for one hope that BB figures will be restocked in GW stores. Getting all those BB figs at a resonable price rather than some of the silly prices you sometimes see on eBay would be welcome, I'm assuming of course that some of the back catalogue will be recast. :-?

I know most figs can be aquired by mail order but seeing them all together like the 'old' days...

yes , thats true. An independent shop here just got "new" blisterpacks and some teams again. But here in Germany it´s difficult to get the Fanatic teams like the Khemri team. The GW shop are not allowed to offer fanatics stuff... :( so i was told.
