That’s an interesting article and I’m sure the game is very different from Bloodbowl. In fact that article doesn’t seem to mention much about damaging the other team.

As you can have up to 14 players with 6 on the pitch there must be a reason to have subs so I assume players can get injured and having a ref model must mean there are penalties for fouling. They’d be missing a trick if killing the other team isn’t a viable winning strategy as plenty of people love Bloodbowl for that specific reason.

Though 1 thing I do think is that if you were to imagine a 40K version of Bloodbowl it would look much like this but with 2 of tau, chaos eldar and necrons in place of the space dwarfs and space skaven. I don’t think GW would have just transferred the normal BB game to the 40K universe and would be more likely to borrow from other Sci-fi sports games like Speedball. Also if I were to imagine a sci-fi sports game it would have “proper” aliens in it rather than fantasy races in futuristic armour. Only the humans really look like they have advanced technology and you can tell the models have been designed to appeal to BB players. Though I think that’s a good thing.

That’s the reason quite a few people have an issue with Mantic, it’s not that they borrow inspiration from other sources after all everyone does this, GW are very guilty of it too. It’s just that they seem to specifically target GW’s games. I can see the sense in this as they are the biggest player in the fantasy and sci fi miniature business by a long way and many of the staff used to work at GW. But I would like to see them bring more originality into the range and to be fair that does seem to be happening now.

I have been thinking about this, and they have me almost hooked with their kickstarter. With better background music they would have had me directly. But then, that game design article almost pushed me over the edge to order. Please, hold me back, I need to save money...
Have anyone found any gameplay videos yet?

They have said they are finishing editing the gameplay video. I really like the articles they have been pulling out.

I especially like the direction this game has taken.

Not a gameplay video, but a gameplay preview of sorts. I'm pledging the Jack level for now unless the ROI for Striker makes me feel it is worth it.

I almost jumped on it in the first hour, but talked myself out of it. Then when I changed my mind a second time (at the 3 hour mark) the $140 option was gone. I then discovered I couldn't make the pledge work on my Nook for some reason. So, I just finally got to sit down at the desk top computer and I'm in.

I missed the Bones deadline and the Mantic Fantasy Kickstarter deadline, but I got the Impact Roller Derby and Dreadball pledges in. Now I just hope my wife won't kill me.

Things are looking up. 100k goal reached and all Strikers will be getting a lovely MVP lady mini. 110k will get 2 more humans/corporation and 2 more marauder figures.

The 125k stretch goal will have John Doe, probably a cthulu/squidward insipred MVP.

On another note, I bumped my pledge to Early Bird cheerleader. I got another guy to join in the fun :D

This is Chris the person, not the Impact partner.

What really chaps my ass red is that the same community that won't even try Elfball because it has a different field, hex bases, only six players and turns that don't involve every team member moving....seem to have no problem with it if its put out by a named company like Mantic. Nothing against Mantic, of course.

I understand your gripe. I share it. I've owned Elfball for along time and like it. Great game more people need to try/play. I bought this one too. Never have too many good games.

More people would play Elfball if it was professionally produced in a shiny professionally illustrated box, etc. Yes, I know, that doesn't change the game any, but that's what draws people in to try it. I'm sure the partners know this as well.
Just wondering why Impact doesn't do a kickstarter for a shiny new version of Elfball (including 2 plastic teams)?

i play in a successful bb league. i asked the gang if they'd like to play elfball and i got a negitive response.
and not for nothing, but you have some dicks on the impact! forum(cough, cough darklord, cough) and to ask a question sometimes gets a nasty, offhanded reply. i don't post there much.
i read elfball when scott had it. i did'nt like it. i understand its totally different now. i like the IDEA of the game, and would try it. but i gotta say elfball not being "glossy and in a nice box", its not what keeps me from buying the game. i just don't know much about it.
maybe you should put some "action after reports" with pics of the game play, like on theminiaturespage. that would help.
and also, you can't have a site where you only want the "+1'ers" and the "thats great, tom" people. sorry, but i'm a freethinker. my opinion is as valid as a "+1'er". i am the first to apologise when i get out of line. and thats a damn rare thing on the 'net. but i'm not gonna be attacked for the kind of music i listn to. and i don't like being mocked because i say i don't like that, but i like this. that shit needs to be stepped on.
with the economy still in the dumpster, i understand companies are hurting, and i know impact! has been a champion with our game and its own endevours. but prices are high, and i paint and use my miniatures. i stopped buying "porn teams" and i can stop buying the high priced teams. maybe i'll pick a few figures from these high priced teams, 1 here, 2 there. but i have a morgage, a wife(who does'nt mind my hobby) and a sick boy. those are the realities of my life. to buy a $100+ team, when i can buy almost 2 other teams for that price...no.

I don't see the appeal of this game. Or the miniatures, really. The orcs look ok, but the other three factions don't do anything for me.
