Str 5 black orc gets doubles
2nd skill.
None of the rest of the black orcs have skills yet., though one is on 5spp's.
He will take an ice age to get to 3 skills, beyond the length of the next couple of seasons probably. So does that mean str 5 block for reliability or go crazy with something like side step? It just seems a bit to easy to bring such an expensive piece down if he doesn't have block (saying that in the last game the mighty blow blitzer failed a 3 dice block costing me a ouch down, so maybe my risk reward sensor is a bit off..).

I would just take block or mighty blow. Most people dream of a big guy with no nega-traits, treat him as such.

I'm with Inky. +ST on a BOB is a big deal.

Re: Str 5 black orc gets doubles
Well the whole block/mighty blow argument is another one to have...
The plan (tm) was to have the black orcs skilling first with mighty blow to get to block and 3rd skill faster. It is an intro league so no dangerous opposition. I could still give him mighty blow and try for skill 3, but the games will get harder next season and while I doubt there will be many killers about he will undoubtably cost a turn over or two without block, especially while the other bloack orcs show little sign of skilling up. Maybe play sfe with this chap and block and go mighty blow and the risk with the others.

Take guard. ST5 guard will be a pain to take down, and if you take block or MB you will favour blocking with him over the other BOBs, which will in turn stunt their already-limited growth.

In how many situations would a knocked down str5 be umarked? So that leaves standing up, hitting target and getting to move 3 squares.

What does your league look like? Are you more concerned with the short term or long term?

Re: Str 5 black orc gets doubles
It is perpetual with promotions and demotions, so can't really take on that much risk, but won't be facing highly developed teams any time soon. So does that allow me to skimp on block? Trouble is to skill up to 3 skills mean doing a far amount with him, so increases risk quite a bit. Saying that 'just' a str 5 piece on a high strength team doesn't add that much to the 2 dice blocks I already get.

Re: Str 5 black orc gets doubles
I'd take Block now and follow up with Guard. Then when he eventually gets to a fourth skill, take MB. But the fourth skill won't be too important anyway as he'll be perfect with just Block and Guard. And Block will generate casualty spp's too.

Block then MB then guard
Most of the team need guard anyway, but this guy doesn't.

Surely the opposite? He's the one who doesn't need others to have guard, but he's also the one best able to support others when he has it.Smurf wrote:Most of the team need guard anyway, but this guy doesn't.
