The collapse of the NAF didn’t just have catastrophic effect on teams and individual players. One entire player position ceased to exist almost overnight: the kicker. In the old NAF, which was awash with cash, teams could afford to employ specialist players, players who were only good at one thing. However, after the NAF went into receivership teams needed to get the most out of all their players. Everyone needed to pull their weight, so some specialist players were out!
A lot of kickers managed to keep their spots by re-training as lineman or throwers. Those that couldn’t (or wouldn’t) change, got dropped like yesterdays garbage. This was the case with Dolfar Longstride. Dolfar refused to change position. After all, he was the greatest kicker of all time, why should he change position? For all his bluster and arrogance, Dolfar got dropped by his team, the Eagles, and he found himself unemployed.
Dolfar spend almost a year trying to tout himself freelance, but without success. This was partly due to no team wanting a ‘one trick pony’, and partly due to his use of the phrase “Do you know who I am?”. Finally, he realised that Blood Bowl was a changed sport and he needed to change with it.
Dipping into his savings (which were considerable), Dolfar hired a training yard and disappeared from public view for two years. When he was spotted again, he was stronger, faster and had a wicked right arm! He’d also lost a lot of his former arrogance and had acquired an admirable work ethic.
Despite this, Dolfar still had trouble finding a team to hire the kicker (as he still considered himself). His break came when the Border Princes hired him as they took on the Southland Shortbeards. Dolfar not only completed 8 passes for over 150 yards and chalked up 3 serious injuries (the crowd went crazy for Dolfar, most of them hadn’t even seen a kicker throw a block!), he also saved the game for the Princes! In the dying minutes of the game, with the scores tied and the Princes to kick off, Dolfar kicked an inch-perfect ball right into the Shortbeard’s endzone. With the dwarfs back-tracking to their own endzone, the Princes’ captain skipped past them and scooped up the ball for a game winning score!
After that match, Dolfar was practically beating off teams with a stick (literally when it came to the goblin teams). He now plays a hectic schedule of games and has a soft spot for underdogs. He’s even been known to play the occasional match for Halfling teams, though he does wear a mask and use a pseudonym!
I enjoyed writing that! Love to hear what you guys think.

Dolfar Longstride was born and grew up in Lym-Limidia, the poorest neighbourhood in Cracia’s capital city, Tor-Achare.
A lot of people think of the High Elf and sudden images of tall and sleek towers and clean and pure streets and cities come to their minds, but there’s misery in every country, even in Ulthuan, home of the High Elf.
Lym-Limidia is a very depressed zone filled with small, simple and poor houses where most of the not-that-favoured workers from Tor-Achare live. As Lym-Limidia’s people say “Of course, Lions of Cracia seem very powerful with their axes and chariots, but someone has to clean the Lion’s shit, polish the axes, fix the chariots, dig the stones used to pave the streets where the chariots run, etc, etc”
Dolfar was born in a very troubled family. His father, when sober, worked fixing cargo chariots and doing small tasks so he could earn come coins to waste in ale, and his mother, sick since he was born, couldn’t do much more than suffering her husband’s behaviour and see how her two sons grow up in the streets, instead than in school.
Dolfar and his brother Dalif grew up in the streets. Their days were spent between small thefts and fights, and playing a Cracian traditional game called soccer, or Cracian Ball. This game’s goal was that two teams would struggle to take the ball to the other team’s endzone using only their feet. People say that this game is not that traditional, but that this was an option to the prohibition lesser classes had in the High Elf of playing Blood Bowl, Nuffle’s sacred sport.
Dolfar always played as Protector, the player who defends the endzone and the only one allowed to touch the ball with his hands.
Dolfar was really famous in Lym-Limidia because of his great ability to dive to catch the ball and then kicking it to pass it to his brother. These sport moments were the only ones clean in Dolfar and his brother’s life, who spent so much time playing as getting in and out of jail.
Years passed, and, as Dolfar’s need for sport grew, his brother’s criminal deeds grew too, and, as usual, Dolif took his older brother with him. Dolif became Fildor’s henchman. Fildor was a criminal who had a good share of control on gambling and bets in Ulthuan, and had Dolif to lose his next game to win a lot of Money.
Dolfar’s World crumbled down when his little brother told him they had tol se their next match of CracianBall. Both bothers fought because of it. Dolfar could still be a petty thief, but sportsmanship in the pitch was above all for him, and so, he faced his brother. Dolif’s life as a thug wasn’t enough to beat Dolif’s one hundred years over him, and so Dolif got to the game that day with a black eye.
Dolfar played as never before that day, while Dalid played as if he wasn’t there, and was even substituted because of his lack of strength. Dolfar acted like a wall and their team ultimately won.
Felior made Dolfar and Dolif totally responsible of what happened and had some of their thugs to give them the hardest of beatings.
Dolfar got out of it with a briken arm and a few bruises, but Dolif never walked again.
Dolfar decided to change his life then. His father had died more than a year ago, and he took responsibility on his family looking for an honest job to get a living in an honest way. He worked in a lot of different things, and his family endured hardships and hunger at times, but he never stopped looking forward.
It was in one of those jobs, fixing cargo chariots, as his father did for a long time, where he met Pelinor, a coach from the Blood Bowl minor leagues in Ulthuan. Pelinor recognised him from his times as Cracian Ball player. Thay talked for a long time, and Pelinor offered him the chance of getting out of that hard life and play Blood Bowl. He was searching for someone fast and skilled who knew how to fight and endure in the pitch, and, in the end, it didn’t matter whether he passed the ball with his hands or with his feet, actually, Pelinor was sure that using his feet he’ll reach longer.
Dolfar accepted…..and the rest, is history.
In no more than two years, he found a place in Ulthuan’s Blood Bowl hype. The crowd loved his runs, jumps, and somersaults to catch the ball, block a pass, and the audience was always expecting one of his sudden passes to the furthest point in the pitch….with a kick.
Dolfar’s equipment in game is very Light and simple. His playing style is very fast and agile and he only wears full body tights, or very thigh shorts and a T-shirt with his team colours. He always wears his hair tied short because he doesn’t like the way ponytails get tied in the legs when jumping or somersaulting, and he will never, never, never change his right boot, which is slightly different to the left one, having a reinforced point to kick the ball properly.
