Treemen and how to add foilage

Post by Khaine »

I am thinking of adding some foilage to my durthu to make it a bit more colorful. The problem I am having is I don't know if I should use spong, or another type of material for the actual canopy of the tree, if I should use pins and or paperclips and green stuff to make the boughs of the tree, or just use direct gluing to the existing structure of the treeman. I was thinking that the greenstuff branches would actually be the most proffesional way to do this, but as I have very little experience with green stuff <I once mixed some green stuff for a friend> and am not incredibly steady handed, it might be better for me to actually just use sponge.

Any input would be helpful. I am also looking for TINY faeries to use as an added accent to the treeman. Suffice it to say I doubt this tree will be layed down on the board and I will use markers for down/stunned results. I was even thinking of using a sign stuck into the base with three facings, one that says stunned one that says down and one that says upright. I figured even I could roll out greenstuff to make a sign. Also what would people suggest as a color for the actual spikes on durthu? I thought maybe I would paint them like thorns in a black shiny color, but I don't know if something more like a rose thorn with the green bottom and a reddish top.

This site could be what you are looking for. Otherwise try model railway stuff to help you get another "twist" on simply using sponge/moss etc.

I used to make little Palm trees with cardboard and plastics for chronopia and I think you can make quite good small Leaved out of plastics... just cut them out in the right size and you can adjust them with bending a bit and maybe a it with greenstuff?
but I don't know it it'll work on a mini though...

hope it helps!

I think I am going to use Green Stuff to make new boughs off of the esisting "Stumps". That article helps out alot I think I am going to use some of the standard sponge-like foilage. I think it looks the best out of the options I have found.

Argh - this is what I'm looking for since several years. I found nothing like this in Germany.
Thanks for the link.

Cheers

My mistake! Wrong scale in link (I think)

Better Link

@ Frank - Yeah, for me too! That site was a lucky "find" but the items are quite expensive but the results are brilliant! 8)
