The Best Possible Scoring System at Tournaments

Folks,

lately i've been wondering what would be the best, most fair, system to use for ranking at a tournament. I know there are a lot of possibilities, and here in Belgium we're using different systems, all with pro's and con's.

So in order to create the best system, I'm looking for your input: what systems do you use? Are you most enthousiast about? What should count and what not? And why?

thx,
EH

To me, the only thing I don't like in scoring system tournaments is when two draws counts more than a win and a lost.

I must say this highly surprises me... we all play games, tournaments and leagues, but when it comes down to the scoring system (aka the backbone of the tournament/league/..., no?) it only renders one advice (about two draws being less than a win) and a can of worms... Strange things. Is it bad/dirty/cheesy/... to talk about this?

I don't think is the best possible. This is the same that which is the best inducements/tier system in a tournament.

I enjoy when is extra points for fouls or injuries or TD without limits. Or when it's a limit of 3 points for each, or when isn't extra points at all.

But, as I said, with only one condition. Two draws with the extra points couldn't be better than one win

One rule set to rule them all...

I prefer variety :orc:

And if I should choose one as the best.

Scoring:
Win 15 points
Draw 5 points
Loss 0 points
Concede -15 points

Extra points:
Up to 3 points for each TD
Up to 3 points for each Cas

PS: I know, two draws and maximum extra points is more than one win one loss. But to be honest if someone can draw twice with 3 TD in two games deserve it.

Depends on number of games though as well right. 4 games vs 3, or 5 vs 6? Numbers at event and if its NAF sanctioned or not, just for fun or more competitive. 24 vs 26 race battle (not sure this really matters).

If food is good then that is usally selling point for me :orc:

Personally, I'd love to see a couple of 3-2-0 tourneys pop up to offset the more frequently seen 3-1-0 scoring.

The World Cup might see 5-2-0. Seems a reasonable compromise between the 210 and 310 «camps».

Score it like BB spps: 3 for a td and 2 for a casualty.... Let teams do what they do best and thrill the fans that come to see that style of play....

That's a change of view from you.

It's really not, buddy. 2-1-0 SOS FTW.

Some 3-2-0 tourneys might convert more people into realising that it's no sillier than 3-1-0 and the mechanics of BB don't support a win (and a loss) being worth more than 2 draws in a competitive setting.

That said 3-1-0 is so tame compared to other things that, outside of major tournaments, I don't think anyone cares too much. Accepting other people's foibles is part of living in civilisation. I've attended a lot of local 3-1-0 tourneys and always appreciated that they were otherwise perfectly sensible. Rather than argue over a relatively minor difference of opinion we should all probably be grateful for the things that unite us in a mostly refined and civilised BB-tournament community. After all, Digger has already kindly provided us with an example of the things that happen deep in the woods.
