No problem. :) Yeah this was a change for 2017. It is a meta call; the Treeman is at his best against slow bashy teams like Dwarfs and Orcs, and at his worst against faster teams like elves. The current EB meta has moved away from Orcs especially, but also Dwarfs a little. Whereas teams like Dark Elves and Necromantic are much more prevalent. In this context the apothecary is more tempting, and although Jim played Dwarfs twice and said he missed it he still won both of those games.

Is the wrestle a nod to playing the bash teams in the absence of the tree?

No the Wrestle came in before that. Rolling a 1/9 if both players have Block is actually a nasty result, as next turn your poor little elf is getting smashed back. He is much safer on the ground. Plus Wrestle is just generally good for elves. To make it obvious, 8 vs 8 is generally better for the elves than 11 vs 11 as the opposition can't wall off the whole pitch.
