Will Star Players be allowed at the next Blood Bowl?

i think it lists all the teams that players were thinking of taking.
i'll see if i still have the list of all the teams that entered. it's somewhere around the house somewhere

So, assuming GenCon, who are the likely lads:
All present and correct
secret weapon gobbos (60-80K)
Deeproot (260K - but what else are the fat fellas going to buy? )
Zug (160K) - certainty
Hthark (260K) - possible, they can afford him and he would kick ass
Ripper (200K)
Silibili (180K) - useful, perhaps too expensive
Zzharg (100K)
Headsplitter (220K) - possible, but not if you have any sense
Jordell (200K) - again, vaguely possible
Conspicuous by their absence
Luthor (260K)
Deathroller (220K)
Grashnak (220K) - too much of a risk without Block
Griff (260K)
Grim (200K)
Hakflem (160K)
Horkon (140K)
Borak (220K) - not without Leader
Morg (280K)
Prince Moranion (180K) ROTFLMAO
Varag (220K) - don't need him, have ST 4 and Block starters anyway.
What do you reckon?

Still a bargain, IMO. Only 20K more.
Humans can buy:
for 120K and Ogre with and extra point of MV and thick skull, but a little bonehead-ed and (most importantly) without block (though you could get it after the first game).
OR zug for 160K.
Not completely cut and dried.

Using the 60 teams at GenCon ... we saw the following show up on the 18 teams that brought stars (yeah only 18 of the 60 even had one):Nazgit wrote:So, assuming GenCon, who are the likely lads:

1 Borak (220k)
2 Count Luthor (260k)
1 Deathroller (160k not the 220k, you listed above, he has a weapon)
4 Fungus (60k)
1 Grim IronJaw (200k)
1 Headsplitter (220k)
1 Horkon (120k not the 140k you listed above, he has a weapon)
2 Morg (280k)
2 Nobbla (80k)
1 Ripper (200k)
1 Scrappa (60k)
1 Thrud (100k)
3 Zug (140k ... next year 160k)
The 18 teams that brought weapons:
Top Chaos team was 21st ... Chaos with Scrappa 46th; with Borak 48th
Top Dark Elf team was 14th ... Dark Elf with Horkon 55th
Top Dwarf team was 7th ... Dwarf team with Deathroller was 7th; with Grim 37th
All 3 Goblin teams had weapons ... Goblin with Fungus 10th; with Bomber/Nobbla/Fungus 43rd; Nobbla/Fungus 44th
Top Human team 4th ... Humans with Zug placed 4th, 5th, and 33rd
Top Orc team was 6th ... Orcs with Morg placed 13th and 22nd; with Fungus 26th; with Ripper 56th
Top Skaven team placed 2nd ... Skaven with Headsplitter and Thrud 50th
Top Undead team placed 1st ... Undead with Count Luthor 9th and 27th
So out of 60 teams how many star teams made the top 20: Only 6
2 Zug (now priced to 160k), 1 Fungus (played by probably one of the true masters of Goblins in the World), 1 Count Luthor, 1 Deathroller, and 1 Morg
Like I said I liked the system because it let the stars show up ... put for the most part they hurt your chances of performing well at the tournament.

1/3 of coaches turn up the stars, 1/3 of top 20 have stars.

Thanks for phrasing that better for me Ian ... yeah what I was trying to say is unlike the Chaos Cup which used the Blood Bowl rules for star players where 18 of the top 20 teams had a Star Player. The GenCon system makes stars just another tactical decision. There use did not give the teams that brought then any greater advantage or the ones that did not.ianwilliams wrote: So pretty much evened things out.

And as I said ... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Most CAS, and Most TDs were all won at the GenCon Bowl by teams without a star player.
I've got my fingers crossed that if JJ uses stars again that he gives this system (increased price/no team reroll use) a try.

Even though the general consensus at the Blood Bowl was a no to Stars, somehow i think that will be a no brain decision for GW, particularly their business is selling miniatures and there are new Star player models being released next year.

Er - if they were uncompetitive under Galak's suggestion you'd expect less than 1/3 of the Top 20 to have Star Players.Indigo wrote:is this not just the same as ruling them out? what I mean is, if taking one makes you uncompetitive then will people simply not take them?
Having even proportions means that Stars neither add or detract more than the same money spent on something else.
